Yep, Just got off the phone with the eaton tech guys. The worm gears are stronger in the forward direction. So for the front design the just install them the other way. Otherwise they are the same. Kinda like how a d30 Hp is stonger then the Lp because of the back cut in the ring gear. Like Duke from GI Joe says..." Knowing is half the battle"

Not sure in off road usage, but in the drag world, it seems the quality of them is worse in the last few years due to manufacturing changes. Lot of people are killing the 9" units.

My understanding was that the rear was a little more aggressive

That part number is for a D44 rear, you'll want the 913A592 for the front.

They are all gears as far as I know so I would have to say something is broken.

I will have to disassemble this one to take a look to see if anything could be turned around or move side to side to make a difference. This will be installed in the front of a V-8 Tj with dana 44, but the part number comes back to Ford does not say front or rear but ford hasn't put a 44 in the rear since late 60s I think. This is new and the manufactures date was april 2014.

I have a true trac in the front of my Cj and love it, it has been in for 3 years now with no issues, this other one is for a buddy

I have this one could the worm gears be moved from one side to the other or does it really make much difference? I guess that is the question

(My Question to Eaton/Response below): I have a Detroit True Trac part # 913A589 it has been in the rear axle (little fib) of my jeep and has worked great, it is time to do some up grades and I would like to install this in this front. The info I have states this is for rear operation. Will this work in the front can I or should I swap the gears from one side to the other? Thank you for any info, this is a great differential.

I do not recommend either and it would be best for you to buy the correct unit for the application. That being said I have had people who have done it both ways with no issues.

I guess it would depend on where you looked up the application My information just shows "Dana 44 rear".
