Default Anybody do a home build unit bearing to cup and cone?

Wanting to do a superduty axle to a normal 60 cup and cone bearing set-up. Anybody do one. The kits are to much. Why dump a grand into an axle that is selling for $6-800.

Can you swap ball joints out from a 97 era axle to a SD one? Seems it maybe the same size ball joints?

Not sure but if it was as easy as running down to autozone with some regular bearing part numbers to do the swap then the kits wouldn't cost a grand.

I know its not bolt on with factory parts. I have a full machine shop to build/reshape whats needed. Didnt want to reinvent the wheel if a DIY person has completed the job. Or maybe he threw the hands in the air and said fukc it. With the 4 stud mount you would think you could turn a standard spindle to fit the step in the knuckle and find a way to attach it.

Ive heard that a few times also. But if it was that easy seems more guys would do it. Units take a shit way to easy.
