Default 10 Bolt Dana 44 Front ?'s

I have an 87 chevy that the previous owner swapped in an older 10 bolt from a 3/4 ton like 80-81. I just broke both l/s shafts and r/s inner shaft. Question is will the shafts from a chevy 44 fit in it. Or any other 44 shafts.

So why won't the inners work? Spline count? I believe they are both 28 spline. I might end up buying chromoly shafts after the new year but wanted something to get by with. Ebrown How much for the complete set of shafts?

The inners and outers should work. The splines should be 28. Unless you have a 1989-1991 10 bolt from a suburban or blazer then they are 30 spline. The only difference is the u-joint on a dana 44 is bigger. The dana 44 shafts will not fit throught the opening on the knuckle. You will have to remove the ball joints and install the shafts that way.

You can buy the complete kit brand new for $99 per side. Includes inner/outer/and u-joint. Motive gear brand 33% stronger than stock.

This is false, 10 bolts and GM D44's (and MOST other D44's) have the same 5-760x joint. All shafts are not made the same, and a bit of clearancing in the knuckle opening may be required.

If you go to "axles" at the top left you will find the other side as well.

Back when I was 10 boltin' it I ran these and they performed well.

I dont know what the difference is then but they dont fit unless you remove the knuckle... 10 bolt axles slide right into a dana 44 knuckle but the dana 44 axles will not fit through the 10 bolt knuckle. You would have to grind a good bit away to get the dana 44 shafts in.

alright well i pulled the axle shaft out and its 30 spline. He said it was out of an early 80's 3/4 ton cuz it is 8 lug. Maybe its because it has an ARB in it he got the 30 spline for more strength. Either way i'll look for some 30 spline shafts now.

yes but only 89-91 k5 and suburbans were factory 30 spline front. Did they ever make dana 44s that are not flat top passenger side knuckles. I thought all 44 were and the 10 bolts werent. I need to scrape the mud off and see if it has the 44 markings on it so i know. Or take some measurements on the shafts and compare them. thanks for the help guys.
