opinion time...

is it easier in the long run to do the drivetrain swap while it is still on the stock axles or smarter to do the suspension first so i can take into account the driveline angles i will be dealing with?

Watching your build. Good luck with it. I'm sure I"ll be learning something from it. Got almost the same thing going on here.

i would rather do the motor and stuff first before its up higher...but not if having the rear end will help set the motor in right

I say suspension and axles first then drive train. But what do i know..................Just think if you get the axles and suspension in and dont get the motor in you can still wheel it.....

I guess the way I figure is you wont be happy with a 4 banger and built axles you cant go anywhere because of lack of power, but on the other hand you wont be happy breaking parts because of HP and weak parts. In reality, if you do axles first, the only thing you may change is the rear pinion angle depending on motor/trans/case length, and you can get shims to adjust that, and drive shafts.

I think I would do it all at once, then you don't have to worry about it.

i am planning on it all at once, but something still has to be first. just looking for an order of operations.

I'd do the motor and tranny first then.

I think this is the way to go. You can run the tires you have on the 6d's and that way if all the cash is not there to drop the motor in you can still play. Look how long Collin wheeled the 4banger and 6d's before putting the big motor in.

Is your bigger motor and tranny in your rig yet or did you start with the axles?

I agree with Colin. Besides you can be very surprised what you can do with that little 4 banger when everything else is solid behind it. 42s and Dana 60s and very rarely do I wish I had more power with my 4 Banger.

Put the motor, trans, tcase in (not neccesarily installed done but atleast resting in the mounts). Then when locating axles you can determine how far you can/can't stretch the wheelbase to possibly clear oil pan etc.

I am doing axles first, but mainly because I was selling everything else first. They are basically bolt in deals with my situation anyway, and I am leaving my rear axle pirches unwelded till after the motor is in.

ok i think i will do the axles first...then if time or $ runs out i will still be wheelable. since i have gone thru the entire current driveline i trust it. when i go to do the motor it will be a bit higher but i have rollers so it shouldnt be too bad. as soon as im done with fall clean ups it is going under the knife
