Default cj7

i have an 82 cj7 with narrow track axles (think it's actually just an 82 tub) but anyways. it has 4 wheel drum brakes and dana 30 front, amc 20 rear. im told the rear end is very weak and i don't want 4 drums. what axles will fit under mine? i don't really wanna custom any axles (shorten them) unless i find a good deal on them. i plan on running 35" tires so any suggestions for axles?

your rear end isnt "very weak" the ring gear on a 20 is bigger and thicker then on a dana 44 the only weak part of the 20 is the 2 piece axles
you just need a donor later moderl dana 30 front that has disc brakes to do the swap on
i hapen to have a 30 front that has disc brakes and junk gears that would be perfect for that

yes buy a set of one piece axles for your 20
and yes its out of a cj and just so you understand the gears and everything in the dif is junk, someone ran it with no lube so only the disc brake parts are good on it and the axle shafts
but 100.00 bucks for the d30
and it has 6 bolt hubs

You don't need to do gears. Take his Dana 30 and take the complete outer knuckles and swap them over to the drum brake axle. I've done the same to convert from drum to disc.

Yes I have a new pair of moser engineering one piece axles that have about 40 miles on them.
http://www.moserengineering.com/axle...76-81-cj7.html
blew the pinion bearings and gears out of the 20 so the axle is being replaced. I cut the old housing up last night to get the spacers out of the old axle so they could go as a full set. Going to put them up for sale on here today, you get first crack. Already have the backing plates pressed, on all you need to do is drive in the spacer that I cut out yesterday, throw the brakes on, bleed the brakes and attach tires and drive away.
$200.00
