We just got an ATRIX 4g last month and so far we have had nothing to complain about. In fact this is my first post with this phone.

+1 for droid

I laughed at this.

A lot of my droid-ed friends are having issues (Immortal....).

Wait until the end of the month when Apple announces the new iPhone, and wait for some reviews.

I wouldn't let 4G play too big of a factor in your decision, because 4G is still somewhat theoretical at this point.

Well, this is the rare case where I disagree with Schweeb. Dave's issues with tech stuff stem from the fact that he is only half asian.

I have had my droid2 for a year, only issue was the ribbon cable for the slider got disconnected by a business card.

The GPS is decent for a phone, but keep in mind the mapping relies on your data connection. I've had mine get 'lost' when i get in a low signal area, but that will affect any phone.

Best thing to do is to get together a few droids and iphones (hopefully from friends) and see what you can use without instruction.

I've got an extended battery for my EVO and it last me all day using the internet which consumes a lot of power where most phones would die ... Mine last a lot longer now and my gps is awsome I use it all the time and have never lost a signal yet!!

Try driving through Kentucky. There are spots in the mountains where even a 'real' gps will lose signal.

Just got the new Motorola Droid III, so far, so good. I had the first one out but this one has a larger screen and is much faster.

Im curious how 4g is theoretical at this point? Do you mean for the iphone? Or in general?
I've had my 4g evo for almost a year and the difference in speed between 3g and 4g is night and day.

It has to do with how the speed is rated. No carrier truly has '4g speeds' right now. It is MUCH faster then the 3g, but not truly 4g yet.

I beg to differ. And I do not, nor will I likely ever, own any Apple computers (i.e. not Apple fanatic).

4G isn't anywhere near fully deployed on any network yet. They're still in the early stages. Sprint is furthest along, though. You can't bank on getting "4G" speeds anywhere... plan on getting 3G, and be pleasantly surprised if you get 4G.

I have a 4G phone, and only in MI do I rarely get "4G" I have been all up and down the east coast, and through Ohio and Indiana, and I have had 4g almost 50% of the time. When on the east coast I am in 4g more then 3g.

My guess is it will be getting widespread way faster then 3g did when they rolled it out. There is still a lot of the western US that doesn't even have 3g yet.

Yeah I've never been in the mountains with it ....

And I've owned my EVO for a while now and have never picked up a 4g signal in Michigan I imagine in bigger cites you will pick up 4g

Verizon is leaps and bounds ahead of Sprint in 4G coverage, not even close. They turn on new cities all the time. I don't even think Sprint has extends their coverage for a year, that's why you build up your own network rather then have Wimax do it for ya.

Hey Bob,

I have a Captivate from AT&T, and I love it. BUT, I wouldn't recommend it for most. It took me a year to get happy with it, by using custom ROM's and some other pretty intensive stuff. (I like doing that kind of stuff, a lot of people don't.) I was not happy with it as it came to me, and AT&T has pretty much taken their hands off the support for the phone and passed that back to Samsung. They, Samsung, have not been very responsive in that area.

Hope you're doing well!

Chuck

I love my iPhone 4 great and always works, easy to use and a great screen and good pictures. My email always works.

I have a samsung galaxy s as a work phone. It sucks. The screen is giant, but it is nowhere near as good of quality as an iPhone. Touch screen isn't as sensitive and responsive as an iPhone. Just the way android operates on this phone it just sucks IMO. I can never get my email to work for more than a week. It is durable tho, I ran it over with my jeep and it still works fine, although the longer I have it now it seems I'm getting more and more issues with it. The cracked glass is annoying but really didn't effect the screen operation.

As far as networks, I have AT&T iPhone and Verizon with the samsung. I drop more phone calls with the Verizon than anything.

Again, I want to thank all you folks who responded with info. I thought I'd report what I finally bought.

A week ago, I went down to the Livonia AT&T store, fully intending to get a Motorola Atrix 4G for $100 (with my upgrade eligibility). After reading all the reviews I could find on the Internet, that was my second choice. My first choice was the Samsung Infuse 4G, but that one would cost twice as much, $200.

So I get to the store and the salesperson is explaining some of the features of the Atrix to me. I look over at the display setup, and I see that the Samsung Infuse 4G is marked $99.99 -- I asked about it, thinking it had been mismarked. She said that AT&T had dropped the price to $100 just that week, but she didn't know if it was a permanent or temporary reduction.

I played with the two phones for a half hour, and then got the Samsung Infuse. Set up my regular e-mail on it, opened up a g-mail account, set up my home wireless LAN, and I'm good to go. I've downloaded a few apps to it, all free ones except for the full version of QuickOffice.

Great phone! Does everything except butter my bread and open my Bud for me! No complaints!

They all have multitasking, so simultaneous use of data and phone is possible.

Other than some differences in battery usage and memory available, I don't see a hellova lot of difference between them. So I figure I must be missing something. Any enlightenment you can give me on the differences among these 4 phones will be helpful. The 4 phones are:

1. Motorola Atrix 4G, $99, 4.0" screen
2. HTC Inspire 4G, $99, 4.2" screen
3. Samsung Infuse 4G, $199 new, $89 refurbished, 4.5" screen
4. Samsung Captivate (3G), $49, 4.0" screen

Again, thanks for your input in advance.
