Default 53 Willyz

I wont have it in my garage for a bit, but this is my new project.

Don't know all the details until I get a chance to go through it, but it's a 53 Military.

CJ-3B....not likely military since the only ones built for Military use (M-606) were built in the '60's for small friendly overseas countries.

Nice high-hood either way, commonly known as the ugliest of the flatties, but their charm grows on you after a while....plus they have the best factory running gear of all the flatties.

Wrong marker lights, wrong rims, missing canvas top hardware/holes on body, no reflectors on bottom of rear qtr panel, no handles on body, etc... Not military unless it's been way overhauled. Look for this on the dash to verify if actually a military model.

It WAS overhauled. There IS little signs I have seen like bolted on front bumper instead of riveted (civilian), 3 holes in a triangle pattern under the rear seat. It is my Grandpas (bought for my Grandma). They bought it either directly from the military then sent it to be overhauled or bought it from a guy who overhauled jeeps that he bought from the military. It was a LONG time ago so he didn't remember for sure, but he is certain it's military. My family has owned it for well over 50 years. Obviously been repainted and hard top added, tires changed, etc. Once I get it here I can look it over. Downside either way, I am pretty certain they had it regeared but I am PREYING they just regeared and didn't swap axles.

Edit...I am also not 100% certain its a 53. Thats what my Dad told me, but who knows how accurate that is. I will know everything in a couple weeks. I'll be down there tomorrow again so I'll try and look around some more.

you are right it is not a debate thread, but people tried to correct you when you said it was a military Jeep, but you refuse to believe that. I know it's hard to believe but grandpa was wrong or mislead when he bought the Jeep...the military didn't start using cj3b(high hood) jeeps until the 60's...but hey tell all the people you want its a military jeep, the one who know, will know you are full of shit

I only said it was "not likely" but anything is possible. I have looked at dozens of flatties over the years, many of which were described as "an old military Jeep". Only a few were actually military units, and that doesn't really make them better than anything else, unless you're planning a military restoration.

I bought a '46 CJ-2A (according to the title and the previous owner) that I knew was mostly CJ-3A, but turned out to be mostly a '50 M-38....I almost bought an MB that turned out to be a GPW/CJ-2A mishmash...and that guy swore it was all original and he had owned it since the early 50's.

I also drove over an hour to go look at an "old Jeep" a coworker's grandpa had in a barn...swore it had been there as long as he could remember (he was 22), even talked to "grandpa" on the phone...he couldn't remember the year, but it was "just an old Jeep....ran good when we parked it...no rust at all". Turned out to be a 1990 Geo Tracker with a seized motor and a rotted out floor.

All BS aside, bring on more pics! The 3B looks to be in really nice shape.

I am going off what I was told from the people who bought it over 50 years ago. If it isn't mil I don't have a problem saying it isn't but until I see the proof for myself I'm not taking anyone's word on it. There IS pictures online of highhoods being used overseas for the navy and army. Like I said, I am not positive on the year either. I DO know that it was heavily overhauled so if they were repainting it, they may have shaved out soft top hardware holes or who knows what. I'm sure there were assholes back then that would lie about it being military too, so who knows. Honestly I don't really care. If it IS military I will do a military restoration. If it isn't I will restore it to whatever the hell it was like originally. Just don't call me full of shit until I can prove that it is or isn't.
