I have a friend with a little business that can fix you up

$575 material and labor - fully welded, ground, bondo feathered weld seam and primed.
$400 fully welded only, with you doing the finish work.

I would use 2x4 or may be 2x6 to weld in the rocker.
If you make it wider, it will act as a rub rail as you go thru the trees in the trails and help protect the doors and door handles..
If you put a halo bar on it later you will be all set.
I used 2x3 and regret it.
Trashed the doors.
