Default 2001 1500HD brake and steering issue

ABS light is on and also brake light on dash. Steering seems to be a little harder than normal to turn. Truck has a hydro asst on the brakes that is powered by the steering pump. Would the power steering pump going out cause the brake problem also?

does it feel like there is any p/s assist when sitting still, if not p/s pump pulley shaft brake pretty common. try to see if you can pry out on the pulley, and the shaft will come out with it.

it does seem to have some asst but not what it used to be. Seems brakes are getting worst also, pads are all good.

look at the back side of the rotors, they have a common problem to rust pitt on the back side of the rotors in turn not allowing as much pad contact to the rotor. as for the abs and brake lights if the abs light comes on so does the brake light, i have seen multiple problems with the hcu's on these, (abs computer and valve assembly), usually mounted on the inside of the frame rail under the drivers door. the best bet is to get it scanned and see what codes are in it and go from there. as for the steering problem, if you have oversized tires or have the torsion bars cranked it changes steering angles which makes it harder to turn and puts more wear and tear on the pump, i have seen alot of pumps get weak on these. if its original i would just replace it!!

still have stock tires on it but I think I'm going to put a new pump on it anyway. Can an auto parts store scan the brake system or do I need to take it to a dealer???
