Default St Helen Warning

There will be an ORV Enforcement Program in effect the weekend of Aug 12,
13, & 14th (Jamboree Weekend) in St. Helen. Similar to "Click It, or
Ticket", this enforcement program is publicized with time & place but will
be enforcing the County ORV Ordinance instead of the seat belt law. The
Program is called "Ride Them Right, or Pay the Price". Law Enforcement
officers will be focusing on speed & reckless driving. So if you are riding
on the county roads, keep your speed under 25mph !! No racing, no wheelies,
no riding next to each other, no riding in the center of the lane. If you
see someone acting up, let them know they are jeopardizing your right to
ride on the road.

There will always be the 2% that disregard the law. With the increased ORV
presence in St. Helen, that 2% number is increasing. Our Richfield Township
Public Safety department has been very tolerant of those that have taken
advantage of the law. They have been providing education and warnings for
two years, not writing tickets as some other departments. However during
the past several holidays, there have been a few too many riders that have
chosen to ride inappropriately on the roads. Therefore, the Richfield
Public Safety Department will be focusing on those ORVs that are
disregarding the rules. They are publicizing this enforcement program in
the papers, and with banners. So "Ride Them Right, or Pay the Price".

I just got this memo, figured I would pass it on. They are NOT trying to run ORV's out of town just trying to get things under control a little before something bad happens and they have no choice. Trust me it is out of control right now. Hopefully this memo saves someone a ticket and clears up any rumors.

That ticket for speeding is a little more than they lead you to believe.

Also, don't forget about the drivers responsibility fees they rack on top of the ticket.

Most feel they ARE operating within the laws, the problem lies in the fact that the enforcement officers tend modify the laws as they see fit to generate funds for our failing state government without regard to how a simple little ticket will screw up each person's individual financial situation and credit rating ultimately screwing up the economy even more.

doing wheelies in town or darting out in front of traffic or ripping up neighborhoods is not operating with in the laws. cops are trying to control an out of control situation. remember it's a privilege to drive your orv into town. if something is'nt working you modify it

I completely agree with you on the speeding/reckless driving but like the OP stated, those are the 2%, the other 98% of us get to take the wrath because of it.

Pure bullshit. Cops don't give two shits about raising revenue. I and many others like me don't like assholes. Assholes, hippies and know-it-alls get tickets, plain and simple. If you fall into those category, then reap the whirlwind.

Truth based on what you have seen? So you've seen some people get tickets, and somehow the truth is the officers have made up crimes and they are doing it to raise revenue for the county or state?

All you saw was people getting tickets and you made up the rest. That's the truth.

if you break the law you deserve a ticket. driving your orv is no different than driving your car or truck you have to obey the laws or recive a ticket.

I have ZERO points on my license, but did get a "creating erosive conditions" ticket in Grayling in 2005 for climbing hills off the side of the trail with about 15 others. Don't take my comment personal Hombre, you are just a pawn in the game doing your job.

Me with an attitude? You are proving my theory right. Too bad you can't taser me through the intrawebs. Don't talk down to me, I do my best to obey all the laws that are designed to keep us poor.

Go back and read the memo. There is no modification to the laws they are only enforcing the current law. 2 years worth of warnings , what other northern Michigan town has ben this patient? As far as the revenue comment goes I will just say you have no idea what your talking about, they could of wrote tickets for at least a million by now and they haven't.

PS you have two local residents posting here that are telling you there is a problem and they are going to start enforcing the law. Take it for what its worth.
