I don't know that its retardedness. It seems that usually the bad accidents there are from people launching off a dune and flipping. Sounds kinda like what happened here.

Thats more of a novice thing. Dunes are all about knowing when to back off at the top. Not usually someone trying to hot dog.

Sad for everyone involved.

Usually the dumbed thing I see at the dunes are guys on dirt bikes ripping full throttle in and out of slower moving full sizes. Usually heading right after the last dune, back into the park.

Sorry to her family....I know that has got to suck.

But having driven all sorts of vehicles up there (defensively)....I have this to say.
It doesn't matter the vehicle, what matters is the asshole operating it. I have been nearly T-Boned by quad's, dirtbikes, jeeps, trucks, snowmobiles, subaru's and yes even a saturn one time. This is an area where you need to constantly be watching all around you.

I take my jeep up there quite frequently, and I also take my quad, and RZR. Have never had any issues (lots of near misses caused by other people) other than some unintentional air, but my head is on a swivel and we always have a good time.

If you pay attention, and dont operate over your abilities (regardless of the vehicle) then you will be fine. Its the people that say "hey no speed limit" and "its a wide open space out here" are not only the ones that have problems, but they also tend to cause the problems.

I talked to her husband. He is a friend of mine. He is a fukin wreck. She left him with two sons, a ten month old that will never know his mom and a 4 year old that keeps asking about her... She has been riding quads with him for ten years. She has been to silver lake many times. He was out in front so he did not see it but, some witnesses said she got a little air and came down noise heavy. The quad fliped over forward and smashed her. I cant imagine what he is going thu right now... RIP Jenni. You will be missed.

Some of the shit we do for kicks. You never stop adn look at what could happen. I know you cant look at all the "this could kill me" things in life as you would never leave the house but damn makes you think about a few things. Thoughts to those who are hurting right now.
