Sorry it took me so long to give you any new ideas I have had a few "life moments" get in the way in the last few months. This truck was 75 miles from me from Sept '10 to March '11 due to my wife and I moving to a different house and not having room for it. Then my work schedule also doesn't allow for much if ANY free time lately.

But enough whining and excuses from me, I will working on it every chance I get from now until I finish this segment of the build. I should have new progress to report weekly moving forward.

In about 2 hours I will be making the trip north to rescue my 42's

Default Some Progress

Been slowly picking away at things lately.

- Switched back to SRW front hubs and got back to 84" wide

- Cut off old Front axle link mounts and mad new offset on 15*

- Bent front link tubes 15* to gain some steering after sucking the tires back in

- Front axle is done except for brakes and lube

- Built the spare tire mount

- installed and cut hood

PICS

Bent ram from bending 2" 1/4 wall DOM

Front Link mount rebuild

Spare Mount

Hood (still needs some smoothing out)

42's on

Got the new front brake setup installed this morning. My factory set-up was old and sloppy and I felt unsafe, so I purchase conversion brackets to switch over to cheby 3/4 parts. For the most part everything was bolt on, I did have to grind a couple spots a little to provide better clearance but not much. The biggest issue was not having any instructions to clarify with bracket was left or right and where the thin shim went (could go next to the knuckle or spindle). I ended up having to try all 4 combos before getting the right setup.

Thanks. The spare tire carrier just kinda happened that way and I am very happy with the result.

I probably won't groove them any time soon. But when I do, you can bring your knife and I will get mine and we can burn some rubber together.

Got quite a bit closer to completion this weekend - Brakes, steering, cooling, transmission cooler, and tranny-tcase shifters are done. Just need to finish dash, wiring, some minor plumbing and securing hose/lines, and a rear drive shaft. Then its time to roll it out one last time and put the shocks on it and start beating the hell out of it.

OH and it also RUNS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(Sound quality is a little bad due to the open header 460 being a bit noisy)

Hold yer horses buck-o....You'll get a ride soon enough

I still have a few more hours of work until it's ready for some test & tune, but it looks good for it to make it out in 2 weeks. The list keeps getting shorter (as long as I keep forgetting to remember everything that still needs to get done..haha), so the end of this phase of the build is in sight.

I "drove" it a little this morning, if 1' forward and back a couple times constitutes driving. See proof of movement below.

Exhaust will be very simple, 3" off the collectors into a chambered muffler, another short section of straight pipe and a turn down. Having fender exit headers really simplifies things.

Fenders...hmm...at this point I have no idea what to do for fenders. I am leaning towards "skinning" the tubing with some light gauge steel and calling it good. I would like to use modified factory fenders, but I think by the time I cut them and make them fit there won't be much left of them. So for now it stays like it is, I won't run a lot of wet stuff and will be careful when I don't have a choice. I really just need inner fenders to keep the engine from getting crap thrown onto it.

Thanks, I am down to the wire now. I need it done by next Friday, I really need to run it instead of staring at it all dusty and incomplete. It needs some fresh dirt on it.

On a side note I already have a small issue - I had a friend over a bit ago to check the truck out and decided to drive it out of the cave turn it around in the yard and drive it back into the garage. Simple enough right? Not quite, I get out in the yard a ways and start making my turn and all he sudden I am no longer moving and something is grinding pretty bad. My first thought was the pump in the tranny was bad again, but I still have great pressure only gauge. I mess with the t-case shifters and it stars to move again and isn't grinding, which is strange because the grinding seemed to be more towards the front of he truck not right under neath me. Another few feet ant it isn't moving again and the noise is back WTF!! Just as I jump out to see what the he'll is going on my buddy tells me the front shaft is spinning but I am not moving, which doesn't make sense because both hubs are locked in, I looked at the drivers hub and notice it has unlocked on it's own, great. I lock it back in and figure that I must have forgotten to engage the passenger side hub. The noise is gone and I am back moving again so I pull it back in the garage and shut it off. I then look to see if I ever engaged the right side lockout, imagine my surprise when it is still fully engaged. FML

Moral of the story: My brand new milemarker SS hubs are broken. They have about 200 feet on them in a wide sweeping turn at idle on 28" rollers in grass on flat ground. Sucks but shouldn't be hard to get them warranteed since they guy that was at my house is the manager at the store I bought the hubs at.

It is finally near completion, aside from some cosmetic items it is basically done for this phase. The 460 really likes the propane over the carb setup, it has much better throttle response and seems to make more power (mostly due to better atomization and fuel/air mix). I have one issue that will need to be fixed in the future - In the video you will see a lot of white smoke after getting on the brakes hard, this is from the hydro boost dumping too much fluid back in to the reservoir at once and blowing power steering fluid past the cap. I will need to switch to a resi with a better cap that will withstand the flow/pressure of heavy braking.

(video quality isn't the best but you'll get the idea)
