Default Insurance on a vehical being towed?

Do you need to have insurance on a jeep that is being hauled on a trailer?
My Insurance guy tells me yes, and that if i was in an accident any damage caused by the jeep would need to be covered by the jeeps insurance, It would not be covered by the insurance of the truck that was pulling the jeep.
Does this sound right to anyone?

Your "covered" as long as it stays on the trailer. I thought, but I keep ins on mine and don't worry bout it lol

So as long as the jeep does not become removed from the trailer It is covered, and If the jeep breaks away from the trailer then It would need its own insurance.
Is this correct?

Actually sounds rediculous to me. If you aren't plating it or driving it on the road why the hell would you insure it other then fire/theft? Which is like $5 /monthly. Do you have the trailer insured? What if the trailer is the issue?

Let me guess........ state farm?

I've had insurance on my s10 for a total for 1 week.. and that was just so SOS would give me a plate ( not to drive it but to get the city off our backs) and it gets towed quite often

You got it.
I just took the insurance off the jeep because I do not plan on using it again until June.

I will tell you what I was told by the shop that fixed my last jeep when I wrecked it. State Farm is bar none the absolute worst insurance company to deal with. They have uneducated adjusters and the most rediculous rules of any insurance company out there. I know others that have had huge issues when making claims thru them.

I'd keep fire/theft on it just so you don't have a "lapse" in coverage when you do want to insure it. If it wasn't state Farm I would say don't bother...but they are rediculous

It's been explained to me that if it has an individual title, it needs to have it's own insurance. Your tow vehicle insures your trailer but not the vehicle on the trailer. In the case of my enclosed trailer, I need separate insurance on it for it's contents but not the jeep in it.

This seems to be what I have been hearing, I guess I just need to remember to put the insurance back on the jeep before it leaves my driveway.

We did a claim on a Jeep where the customer smacked a pole sideways with the rear wheel and destroyed the wheel, axle, bearings, and tweaked the housing. The State Farm insurance estimator came in, I went through it with him and showed him what it needed and they wrote a check for everything I said it needed.

I'm sure you can find one from any company, I've dealt with other companies that fought you tooth and nail for every penny.

I did recently have to get insurance on my CJ and was told by the State Farm agent that they didn't have "off road" insurance and I probably wouldn't be covered off road.

I have actually been with State Farm since I was 16, I am 32 now. I have only had 1 accident and they fixed my car with out any issues, and it was fixed fast and well by Family Auto. I know some people here dont like that dealer much either.
I dont have any problems with State Farm I just wanted to verify what my agent told me.

They sent some dumb ass chick, she insisted the jeep be put on a hoist. So finally they got a truck over there to move it, put it on hoist, my mechanic told her what was to be fixed....she asked what the hell she was looking at.
He told her to get the fawk out, called my agent and chewed him a new ass.... they sent a check. But it was a continuous issue .......
