Old fashioned, pffft! Make prototype on shoestring budget, seek out investors, obtain grant funds from state and federal governments, spend funds unwisely (intentionally), declare bankruptcy, hide out for a while, repeat process.

I remember the .com era too.

In other news I'm going to start a fund to pay our state unemployment "insurance." 9.65% of wages isn't too much for MI to ask for right? Even on shareholders that can never collect?

Since this thread has your attention, perhaps his intent is:

build prototype, half-hearted attempt to market product, generate buzz, wait for larger competitor to purchase nuisance start-up company.

I think we're at stage 4.

I am seriously interested in this. I have been wanting to buy into my own offroad shop for quite some time. I have watched the other builders in Michigan make great profits and I have unsuccessfully attempted to buy into all of them, JCR, JeepersCreepers, Creative Fab, Tab, Nates, Koz and a couple others. All have turned me down because they don't want to share their profits.

I am considering an investment of $5,000. With that investment, what share of your business would I own? What guaranteed return on my investment should I expect? (I was thinking a minimum of 10% APR.) At what frequency would you be able to pay out dividends?

Since Stan also seems very interested, another option would that the 2 of us could go in jointly together and buy out your entire business. I am sure that with the quality of your work we could afford to pay you a decent salary.

I'm looking forward to your answers. I could invest as early as next week.

Jim

At a $5000 investment, you would likely have 800% ownership in the company. So what would that 10% be?

Sorry, but if i were to start a business then I'd like to go at it alone, so if it fails I dont owe anyone money...and I the profits would be better not split. Also, i wasnt really asking for people to invest into an offroad company, just to help fund my hobbie.

So you want me to GIVE you money just to fund your hobby?

If thats the case, I'm only in for 2k max. It's hard to put a price on making someone happy, but thats all I'm willing to do at this time since I don't know you.
