guess what my mom sent me.

Election 2006 Tool Kit #2 Ė Granholm for Governor

Ten reasons why we should re-elect Governor Granholm:

1. She opposes outsourcing of jobs to private companies.

2. She supports a more rigorous high school curriculum.

3. She has increased per pupil funding.

4. She opposes vouchers.

5. She has a plan to boost Michigan ís economy.

6. She will go anywhere and do anything to bring jobs to Michigan .

7. She doesnít want Michigan families to pay for the $2 billion lost with the elimination of the Single Business Tax.

8. She is an advocate for health and pension benefits for Michigan workers.

9. She regards MEA as a partnerónot an enemy.

10. She continues to fight for scholarships so that all Michigan students can continue their education after high school.

Letters to the Editor

#1 Ė Education

Governor Granholm has made no secret of what her agenda is for education in Michigan . She strongly supports quality education for all students, regardless of their economic status or educational background.

Her position is more than a campaign promise. She continues to fight for scholarships so that all Michigan students can pursue the dream of a higher education. She has advocated for and won an increase in per pupil funding for next year. She has opposed a voucher scheme that would only benefit some students, not all Michigan students.

What separates Governor Granholm from her opponent is the fact that she has a plan and is putting that plan into action right now. Itís a plan that will help lead Michigan out of its economic slump.

DeVos doesnít have a plan; he has an agenda to destroy public educationóthrough vouchers, through privatization of school jobs and through the attacks on the retirement and health benefits of school employees.

Iím a public school employee. I donít have an agenda. But I do have a plan. I plan on supporting Governor Granholm, the students of Michigan ís public schools and a return to prosperity for Michigan ís economy.

#2 Ė Privatization

I am a public school employee. I have worked as a (custodian, bus driver, secretary, etc.) for _______ years.

Iíve been following both Governor Granholmís and Dick DeVosí campaigns for governor. Iíve decided I will vote for Governor Granholm this fall.

My school district, like so many across Michigan , is facing hard economic times. and is talking about selling jobs, mine included, to a private company to save money.

I know Granholm is the current governor whoís having to deal with an economic slump but I see her trying hard to bring new jobs to Michigan and trying to keep Michigan workers from unemployment and higher taxes. She lives her promise to go anywhere and do anything to bring jobs to Michigan .

I know Dick DeVos is supposed to be a successful businessman, but he keeps his jobs plan a secret, willing to reveal it only after heís elected. I see DeVos opening a plant in China and creating new jobs for the Chinese but I see a significant number of his employees here in the United States lost their jobs because of that overseas strategy.

With Granholm as our governor, Michigan workers, like me, stand a chance to fight off privatization and keep our jobs in this state.

#3 Ė Single business tax

Hooray! Michigan businesses no longer have to deal with the Single Business Tax (SBT). Dick DeVos and his supporters won another victory for big business and anyone with money. They all will enjoy another tax break.

If thereís a winneróthereís a loser and itís the average Michigan worker who will have to suffer with the $2 million lost with the elimination of this tax. Just like his non-existent jobs plan for Michigan , DeVos and his legislative supporters havenít come up with ways to replace the lost money.

But there really doesnít have to be a new plan. The old plan has worked so well in this state, first with Engler and now with DeVos. Just shift the burden onto the already suffering worker and taxpayer. Whatís one more bill to pay?

Governor Granholm fought against the elimination of the SBT. It wasnít because she didnít support businesses in this state. It was because she knew that the shortfall created by doing away with the SBT would have to be made up by workers and their families. She was criticized for wanting a plan in place to replace the lost money.

Sounds like a good business plan. Why didnít Dick DeVos, the successful business man, think of that?

I canít afford to wait until he has a plan. Iím going to vote for Governor Granholm.

#4 - General

The choice is clear.

Governor Granholm will go anywhere and do anything to bring jobs to Michigan . She brought Google to Ann Arbor . Sheís an advocate for health and pension benefits for Michigan workers. She opposed the elimination of the Single Business Tax because the revenue would have to be made up Michigan workers and their families. She fights for a quality education for Michigan students with her support of a more vigorous high school curriculum and a scholarship program.

Dick DeVos extended his Amway business to China . Coincidentally, while new jobs were being created overseas, Michigan workers were being laid off. He spent millions of his personal fortune on a failed voucher campaign in Michigan and he still spends money on voucher initiatives in other states. He talks about reorganizing the pension and health benefits for Michigan workers, ultimately slashing the amount and quality of those benefits.

Governor Granholm for Governor!

#5 Ė General

I donít usually think of myself as being political but I see how any decision affecting me and my students is going to be made by a legislator. Thatís why I have to become involved in the gubernatorial race and cast my vote for Governor Granholm.

Thanks to her support of a more rigorous high school curriculum, I will see my students learn the information and skills necessary for them to successfully compete in a high-tech world.

Thanks to her support of a scholarship program that will give all students a chance for a college education, I will see my students achieve goals they thought were out of their reach because they didnít have the money.

Thanks to her increase in pupil funding and her opposition to vouchers, I will see my students continue to receive a quality public school education.

Thanks to her opposition to tic changes in my pension and health benefits, I can provide for my familyís health and security while still doing what I love the mostóteaching children.

Thanks, Governor Granholm! You have my vote.

Tips

1. Sign up for www.MEAVotes.org to get updates on the November election.

2. Go to www.GranholmforGov.com to learn how you can be involved in her campaign.
3. Volunteer to lead a fund-raising event in your local.
4. Set an example for your members and donate to PAC.
5. Encourage members and the community to write letters to the editor. The samples here can be a basis for their own letters, adding their own stories for effect.
6. Remind members that dues money is not being used for political campaigns. Their PAC contributions are voluntary and are essential to help elect pro-public education candidates, regardless of their party affiliation.
7. Leaders should be receiving an Election 2006 Local Leader Kit containing information on how to motivate and mobilize members for victory. On the back of the folder are talking points comparing Granholm and DeVos. They are great to use in Letters to the Editor, messages and newsletters to your members and conversation starters with the community.

DAMN TEACHERS AND THERE MEA ENDORSMENTS!!

guess ill have to talk to her when i get home about her canidate choice.

Yea right!! "And in 5 years....You're going to be blown away!!!" I don't want to see what kind of shape this state will be in 5 years from now so I'm voting for Dick, he can't be much worse than her and I'm tired of looking at that mole on her face anyway.
