I think you need to realize that after you flip the axle, the 12:00 position of the tire will now be touching the ground instead of the 6:00 position.

Pick up a pencil, start rotating it, and flip it end over end while you are still rotating it. The direction in which the driveshaft is turning the pinion has nothing to do with it and nobody is even saying that would change.

I don't need you to believe me. If the pencil doesn't do it for you, go find a drum-braked rear axle. That's the easiest "real thing" to use to demonstrate it.

picture this. The drive shaft spins in a clockwise motion. Now you take the axle off and flip it over. The driveshaft still turns in a clockwise motion. Hence the tire regardless of its position still rotates in the same direction.

THe only thing that changes is that you now are putting the pressure of Drive on the convex side of the gear tooth and not the concave side. So in retrospect you are driving on the weaker side of the gear tooth. Thats all.

I can see that nobody can help you understand this.

The issue isn't what direction the tire is turning. We all know that never changes. The issue is where the ground contacts it.

Go pick up a pencil. Seriously.

so what your saying is, by placing the ring gear on the other side of the pinion the axles will drive in the opposite direction? THis i understand will drive the axle in the opposite direction. hence the reverse cut gear.

No. I'm saying that flipping the axle over and continuing to turn the driveshaft in the same direction makes the axle move the vehicle in the opposite ditrection. A reverse-cut axle is not just a standard-cut axle flipped over, as you have described.

when you make a rear engine buggy you need to flip the axles. so when you put it in 1st it goes forward.
