Yes, there is driving.
Sunday's trip to Hell's Revenge was 27 miles.
Yesterday's trip to Metal Masher was 51 miles but we took the long scenic way back.

Oh, and the latest update. Paul's full spool exploded. So, we're looking to see if we can weld it up to make it work.

Erin,
Yes, I was cautious but not scared. The issue is that the bottom of the rock is all dug out sand and there is about an 18" straight vertical drop. When I started bouncing backwards, I was concerned that if I rolled back hard that it would be interesting if I hit hard at the bottom. I agree that in the vid, it looks like I should have just stood on the throttle and I would have gone right up. But, it's damn steep.

It looks like the pins backed out and then everything went to hell. Tab and Paul are in town now looking for supplies. I'm guessing we're just going to take the flux core to it and see what happens.

To clarify the mileage issue Erin and Jim were talking about. It is about 5 miles TO Hells Revenge, then wheeling and about 5 miles back. Not 27 to get there. Metal masher was 8 miles to a trail head and 6 miles on a shitty road to get to the metal masher trail head. Most of the main trails is about 8-12 miles to get to. BFE is about 11 to the trailhead. We have been rolling along about 45-50, so not too bad.

Also Pauls axle is almost repaired, then just bolt it all back together.

For future reference, always weld your 14 bolt instead of getting the spool!

So is the orb of traction in Paul's future?

I would guess so John. Our repair should hold for the week but should not be considered a long term fix. It seems that we can get the pins back in fine but will be holding them with a combo of Lock-Tite metal weld and whatever welds we get to stick to the casting using a flux core welder. So, not the best scenario but should work.

Since the day is being consumed by us wrenching on Paul's stuff and the wives shopping, the afternoon will continue to be a mellow day with a trip to Arches National Park.

Tomorrow is Pritchett Canyon and Behind the rocks.

Update!!! Parts are here. Dale Stroebel is the man.

As a comparison, no shop here in town could get us the parts in less than 3 days. Dale made it happen overnight. Thanks Dale!!!!!!!!

Great pics Need more video. One day I too will make it out there.

What's with the secrecy on the trailer tire issue. I was having major trailer tire issues, at least wear issues when I had Carlisle Bias tires. I went to a radial and haven't had an issue since (I think mine are the Goodyear Marathon's, but not sure off the top of my head)

New tires/wheels Jim? The black rear corners are a nice touch too

Paul,
No secrecy on the tires. They are brand new and I ran over something in the road which blew it out. I don't know what brand it is because I haven't looked. It's whatever brand was on the trailer when I bought it. (new flatbed before we left) So, I apologize if I came off as abrupt.

Yup, got some new tars. I bought the stickies last fall & ordered the wheels in December. They didn't arrive till last week. Whew. Regarding the black corners. Thanks, I had to do something to keep Tab from copying me more.

No problem guys.
Would do the same for anyone but it is better when it is for friends.

I may try Goodyears next as the Carlisles have been problematic hauling around my 5500# POS..
