Default how to read the numbers on a chevy ring gear what do they mean

well i always thought i knew how to read the numbers but a recent rear end has puzzled me and i need some help the numbers are as follows 41 15 4 83 now i thought this to be a 2.73 to 1 but the owner believes this is a 4.83 to one i'm pretty sure i'm right but what does the 4 83 stand for i cannot find this info anywhere so it either isn't out there or my search skill sucks and i'm thinking the latter by the way this is a 10 bolt gm out of an 83 gmc 4x4 with a 700r4 so i thought 2.73 sounded really tall thanks for any help guys

41 (ring) divided by 15 (pinion) = 2.73

4 = April ?
83 = 1983 ?

If you still have the truck and the build sheet is still in the glove box.

glove box codes
2.73 ratio (opt GU2)
3.08 ratio (opt GU4)
3.42 ratio (opt GU6)
3.73 ratio (opt GT4)

what he said, but the glove box in 83 might actually list the gear itself, not just a code
