Welcome to the world of being a responsible gun owner. I won't go into all the safety stuff, but I do hope you spend a lot of time at the range working on your shooting technique. Nice and small to carry, but a big enough caliber to make sure the target goes down. Hope you enjoy your purchase.

ya shoot several hundred rounds through it before you carry and can shoot it well enough to trust your life with it.

OP, I hope you like it. I had an XD, and it was a huge POS, BUT, I know, and shoot with many people who like them. I believe mine was an exception, as many people find theirs to be very reliable. Mine was VERY accurate. Shoot the hell out of it!

Make sure you run 100 or so of those hollow points through it to make sure they will feed reliably.

Great post.

I am intrigued by the problems you had with the XD. Very rarely do I hear bad stuff about them. When I do, it seems Springfield stands behind thier product and really trys to support the customer.

It would fail to eject 2-3 rounds out of every 100 or so fired. I bought it "used" but in unfired condition. When I factored in the price of shipping, and possible repairs (not original owner, SA's warranty is only for orig owner), I decided to trade it in on a Glock 17, and I couldn't be happier.

I will say that when shooting IDPA and USPSA, I do see more XD malfunctions than Glock, but the 1911 rules the roost with the most malfunctions.
