I was going to say 1980 and down, but I have found a lot of pictures with rotary handles on 81's, also. They will fit the door opening of all CJ-7's and YJ's as long as you match the latch style to the striker style on the body of the Jeep. Rotary door handles used a rectangular plate and paddle doors use a striker pin/

That's not safe. If the body flexes enough, the doors will fly open without warning. Don't drive like that. Its one of the reasons they changed the striker design and the body in that area in the the first place. On older CJ's, you can actually pull on the striker area and it will move depending on how fatigued the body is. The striker plate loosening up and moving would also cause the door to open without warning.

I will not promote uses for parts that can hurt people.
