Listen 3/4TonCaddy, I'm working on it but don't need to post pics of every little thing I do. I mostly just posted that so I could remind you that your shitbox isn't a 1 ton I think we need to arrange some snow wheeling soon before the TJ gets torn apart.

Front axle is ready to go, most of my brackets are here(bought them this time cuz it's not worth the time and effort to build EVERYTHING), and I'm in the process of prepping the rear axle right now. Should be done or almost done tonight.

I picked up a mock-up 4.0L last week for the new frame, still looking for a cheap AX-15 to use

Sold all the 1/2 ton stuff, wheels, tires, and t-case on Monday. Picked up my 1 tons(79 D60s rebuilt and locked with 5.13s) today, should be getting new wheels and tires in the next day or 2, then onto suspension. I'll be wheeling this summer, and the 1 ton setup is only gonna cost me a little more than the 1/2 ton stuff did so it's well worth the couple weeks it pushed me back.

I saw the light all along, I just couldn't justify the cost. I broke a D44 shaft in my truck and got myself thinking at just the right time for the right deals to come along and provide me with a cheap upgrade.

Nope, the upgrade only cost a couple hundred bucks more....I wouldn't have done it at this point otherwise

So much for a low budget build! At least you can do the work yourself.

Should have your last project up and running and back on this side of the state in a couple weeks. I'll swing it by to show ya how it turned out. The one your building now looks a lot like my first jeep. Do miss the 5 speed!

Nope, it's still pretty low budget! Just happened to find some good deals and good luck. I miss the Scrambler but I'll only be into this for about 1/3 of what I'd have into that thing by the time I finished. Eventually this will get a healthy V8, all the chromo goodies, and some nice bling parts, but I just wanna get out and use it this way now. I'm posting this from the garage so I guess that's a start. Can't wait to see yours once it's together!

I guess I'll post an update since it seems to be what all the cool kids are doing these days.

Got bored and decided to use the GF's Jeep for tire comparison:

Actual progress:
After lots of plasma-ing, cutting, grinding, etc I got the mud truck brackets off, axle cleaned up, trimmed the housing/spring perch a bit, welded the tubes to the housing, etc. Basic structure of the truss:

Boxed in the bottom and put some thru-holes just for style:

Finished product:

It's simple, functional, and different.....I like it. When I get the rear truss done it'll make a lot more sense why I did it that way, but mostly I just felt like doing something a little different just for the hell of it. It'll work well as a UCA mount and lots of extra support for when I launch the thing into orbit.

Tomorrow night I should be able to make some really good progress on the front suspension

Nope, going with conventional steering but I do have to relocate the box. It's around 4" of stretch I think. Final wheelbase will probably be in the 104" ballpark, 4-4.5" lift, and 40s.
