Default 93 ford, runs rough and smokes

Driving along the other day and my ford started to misfire. Now it has a miss whether its idleing or cruising. Seems low on power. The exhaust also stinks but i dont know like what. never smelt it before. So im at a loss. Could in be the cat. converter or you think the motor is toast. its a 93 f-150 5.8 liter with a 100,000 miles.

Check your connections on the plug wires, you might have a lose one, I had one pop lose 2weeks after a tune up.

Pull the spark plugs and look at them. It sounds like a blown head gasket to me. Is it white smoke?

sounds like either a piston ring failing causing oil to go into the cylinders even the smallest leak will cause blue smoke also, doesnt make much sense other than the backfiring but too much fuel. also this could be caused by a bad egr valve. you can either take the egr valve, which is pretty simple to test, take it off and take it to your local auto parts store and have them do a vacuum test on it .that will tell you a lot. then you take and clean the egr valve with carb cleaner on the metal part only. also check the plug wires and everything check and make sure your distributor it tight and didnt come out of time.

Nothing against your mechanical ability but i wouldn't rule out any of the things you just changed. Trouble 3 days after maintenance might not be coincident?

You have a few good leads here already. You should be able to tell by looking @ a fresh plug to see if you are burning oil or coolant. Compression test could help verify this too.

Clogged cats can do wierd stuff with power loss as well.

also check for vaccum leaks that could cause the running rough, misfire not sure.
