Default Michigan voters would back medical marijuana law again

http://www.mlive.com/politics/index....would_bac.html

GRAND RAPIDS – A recent poll showed that Michigan voters would again approve the state's medical marijuana law.

The poll, conducted by Marketing Resource Group, Inc., showed that 59 percent of voters would approve the law, while 35 percent would not. Two percent leaned toward approving, while 2-percent leaned against.

The poll results were announced by Marijuana Policy Project, which helped draft the law. In November 2008, 63-percent of voters approved medical use of marijuana.

“This poll proves that a strong majority of Michigan voters stand firmly behind the compassionate medical marijuana law they enacted two years ago,” Karen O’Keefe, director of state policies for the Marijuana Policy Project and lead drafter of Michigan’s medical marijuana law, said in a statement.

The law has spawned controversy, including multiple lawsuits. Just last week, a federal judge in Grand Rapids ruled that Joseph Casias, who used medical marijuana for a brain tumor, was not protected by the law when fired by Walmart for violating its anti-drug policy.

Another case is pending here: Can the federal government obtain confidential patient information from the state as part of a drug investigation?

I always wonder if the groups that help draft the law skew the number to make it look more favorable.

I don't know.... I think a lot of people are mad about how easy it is for anybody to get it, though when proposed it was supposed to be restricted to people with debilitating diseases like MS or cancer. Not that it should really be any surprise that it worked out that way, but it wouldn't surprise me to see it come back up on a ballot in the future.

If I remember right, I voted in favor of this because I was under the false impression that the use would be limited to those who had no other options for treatment of their pain. Instead I've realized that it only allows rercreational users a method to enjoy their vice under the guise of medical treatment.

Now the people that voted against it the first time are using end arounds to get the manner of distribution outlawed and/or regulated out of existence. I'll assume they would also rather pay good money to have all marijuana users clog up our court systems and incarcerated instead of being taxpaying citizens.

A large percentage of the pot users I know are low life scum. When the demographics change to pot users being upstanding citizens, I will be less against the use of weed. Right now, medical cards allow scummy people to be just a tad scummier.

I know a lot of people who have good jobs, take care of business and smoke. The medical marijuana card is simply a stepping stone toward legalization. Call it baby steps.
I know I'm , but it is amazing that alcohol is legal and pot is not.

Also, it was voted on and passed. The stereotypical trailer park pothead won't even vote on their favorite pastime.

Do you think that might be because its illegal? i have a card in mi and cannot smoke due to monthly drug testing at my current job. if it was legal dont you think many people who cannot smoke it due to work or will not smoke it due to it being illegal would start?

If these low life would follow the rules of society, maybe they would have more to show for their life's work. Oh ya, most of them don't work.

I hate the whole pot culture. I'm working in a shop right now where EVERYBODY that walks through the door is a doper. The owner, shop helper, and a major percentage of the customers are smokers. The reoccurring pattern I see is that the people that smoke weed are losers. These people are willing to sacrifice just about anything so they can get high.

The bottome line? Most people that smoke pot make poor life decisions. They need money to smoke pot and cigarettes, everthing else they need money for comes in second. To make up the difference, many people I've observed get some type of social assistance. By giving these people a EBT card, they now have money available to buy their weed and cigs. In effect, we the tax paying people of the state of Michigan are financing the smoking habits of those that can't prioritize their responsibilities.

For the record, I would love to be able to smoke pot. I think I would enjoy the effects and I may even benefit from it's medicinal properties (I have arthritis). But since it's illegal (on the Federal level and other states) and most employers are against it's use, I refrain from using. Because of this, I have money available to buy other things, I don't support the Mexican pot smugglers that are killing US citizens to get their product over the border, and when a cop is following me, I don't have to shit my pants with worry about the weed in my car.

Mr Nuggets, no offense but you sound either jealous or narrow minded. Marijuana is only becoming more and more accepted culturally and legally. It is really in it's infancy now.

Saying every pot smoker is a loser is like saying everyone who drinks is an alcoholic. Except the pot smoker is much less likely to start a fight in a bar, beat his wife, kill someone in a car accident, or destroy their body. The pot smoker IS more likely to get chubby from Doritos, pizza, and Taco Bell.

I am neither jealous nor narrow minded, I am observant. For the record, I said MOST pot smokers are losers, I stand behind my statement. Pot smokers are people knowingly breaking the law. The stuff is illegal, I don't care if the State says it's ok, the Feds say different. For every one lawyer
or doctor smoking weed, there are a bajillion low life scumbags puffing away. Hang out at the Mounds or to just about any mud bog and observe the weed lovers in action. Do they look like upstanding citizens or just losers?

If you want to smoke pot legally, get active and push the agenda forward. Until then, if you are smoking weed, you are breaking the law and supportinig an underworld enterprise (pot smugglers). Oh, and don't say most people grow their own because that's bullshit. If it were true, the Mexican pot pipeline would be non-existant.

BTW, your rebuttle was respectful. Thank you.

Alcohol is legal and you still can't come to work with that in your system. How do you think Pot will be any different? Pipe dream. That's all I hear from the People who are pushing this agenda. Most of which don't think it through too hard because their bias clouds thier judgment. And By bias, I mean brain damage.

The good thing about our country is that we can all have our own opinions, and in our state the majority obviously does not have a problem with it.

And I have not smoked any Mexican brick weed in years....well not including the schwag I smoked in the Caribbean last week anyway.
