Default c6 vs e40d

I am building a trail truck that is going to get used hard and often. I have a rebuilt c6 and an e40d with upgrades and good converter. I also have the wiring and speed sensor required to use the e40d.

Does one have better ratios? Does one take more power to run than the other?

I have never had good luck with the E40D's. Personally, for a trail truck. i would rather have linkage and the vaccuum line than a bunch of electronic bullshit and linkage. E40D's seem touchy with that soleniod and the trans temps and shit, external filters etc.

As far as the gearing or power, i dont know, hopefully someone else will chime in.

I had bad luck with my old e40d also. It was in my 93 F150 and I ran 35's. I had over heating issues with it and I didn't really romp on it. I did have 3.55's and 35's so that didn't help I'm sure. I had quit using OD too. I swapped it out for a c6 when I did a straight axle swap. I put a 203 behind the c6. The 3 spds are good for wheelin. I'm running 44's with 4.88's. The c6 hasn't missed a beat. Much more simple for installin too.

Thanks for the imput. Big tires and tall gears can kill any trans.

use the e4od first and second gears in the c6, and you would have an awesome trans.

You would get a lower 1 & 2 gear and still have 1:1 in 3rd.

if you don't need an OD and don't plan on ever driving over 55mph, go with the c6.

An E4OD can be made to be a damm good trans, but why mess with all the extras and all the money if you don't need to.

I have a very good e40d ready to put in. I am planning to race it off road and I was thinking the od could be bennificial in low range.

It may be ......For awhile, I would not even think about it over a C6 unless you have a couple grand to throw at it and another for a Baumann controller.

fsumotorhead nailed it with the E4OD gear set in the C6, This will drop your 1st gearing near 10% and second by about 5% and 1.1 in 3rd.

I beat on a c-6 behind my big block for 3+ years and as far as i know it is still alive....Timmy has it so he can chime in if it is till alive or not as he has it. Even with stock internals it is hard to beat a c-6. I broke some hard parts once, tore it out dug threw another trans put it back together and ran it for another year.

If it is all set up and ready to go, and you have the computer to run it, then go for it!
