Default Garage building in OC

Who here has erected a polebarn/garage on their property? Did you do all this to obtain a building permit?

When I did the addition to the front of my garage, I did submit 3 copies of plans that were hand drawn showing what they reqested (foundation, cross-section, materials, elevation, etc.). For the plot plan I just photo-copied my mortgage plot plan and hand drew in the addition; no drainage or grades shown. No septic, well, driveway, permits were required.

ok, that answers some questions. In addition to the above i have to submit letters from my bordering neighbors of their acceptance to a garage in my backyard.

I tore down my old garage prior to building the new one. So, I had a demo permit that gave me "pre existing, non conforming" being too close to my property line. With that, the neighbors had no input. I wouldn't think you need neighbor's input unless you are requesting a variance. Yes, all the drawings and permits are required.

That's really not a whole lot of stuff. Pretty standard building/zoning requirements.

Yeah, seems standard.

Typically, you'd only need to have neighbors approval when you are non-conforming, or due to association rules.

Note that some of those things are not required if they aren't applicable to your build. For example, if you aren't near your septic and aren't messing with it, then you don't likely need to show them a sepric permit, unless you are running a waste line from the barn and have to prove elevations.

I had a pole barn put up 2 months ago. Contractor takes care of all that. township inspector came out and made sure I was at least 20' from property lines and more than 50' from road. Contractor came out and drew up basic map of location, ordered kit from lumber company, and contacted a team to put it up. State inspector came out once the post holes were dug and gave approval to insert posts and start building. once the building was done, I called the inspector out for a final. I learned one thing: do not start to insulate or put in electric until after you get final inspection! Then you can do what you want with the building.
