Found a seal kit for the steering box that replaces the seal that was leaking in the old one. Gonna replace that seal in the new one just for piece of mind! Had to do some digging in the old GM books at work.

Please take the time to box the frame in from the firewall forward while the motor is out. I have had nothing but trouble trying to keep mine straight. The bid block, heavier axle, bigger tires, etc. put a huge strain on the c-channel frame. You will be sorry if you don't.

Got ahold of him today he's having a hard time finding a rod because from what he tells me if a marine issue only rod. Gotta go to his show and pick one up and take it back to work and see if the parts department can order me one!

Well we figured out that the rod was out of a Mercruiser. So i gave it to our parts department and if they can't find anything I'm gonna try a marine to see if they can maybe locate one. Did some engine work yesterday. Got the 4 holes drilled for the water passages. Also took a pic of the casting flash i had to grind out of the lifter valley. The 4 slots were almost completely closed and i ended up grinding them all open.

Tell me about it.....the hole thing that is holding us up is the damn rod!!! He tried honing it but he couldn't get the dark spots out of the end of the rod where end of the bearing go's! Both engines I've done have had one rod that was bad!

Trying to find one!!! Don't really wanna buy a hole set. This is what it looks like, the red square part is whats giving us problems. All the other rods have that part cut away.

Got the new steering box put bolted back in place last night....wouldn't recommend try to do it by your self! I was a royal pain in my ass doing it alone! Didn't need to do much adj. on the steering wheel it right where it needs to be. GOtta take the block and get it washed and then the building begins!!!

Well got the block back from the shop had to have the cylinder walls tapered to fit the 2.25 intake valves in. Should be getting the rest of the odds and ends for the engine in the next week or so!

Wat? I never had to taper the walls on mine. I had 2.25I 1.88E On my .060 454. I know you are running a BBC but what is the final bore and what block.

It's a 70's block w/ final bore of 4.310. The Heads are 990's w/ the bigger 118 combustion chamber. The valves most likley wont hit but it's better safe than sorry....
