Default v8 explorer options?

im looking to buy a 95-01 explorer v8 so i can tow my ranger with it and use it as a dd. but it seems like every v8 i see forsale is an awd. did they make the v8 4wd models or did they only come as awd?

Of that style all are awd however you can convert.

I am working on this for my wifes 98. The swap works best on 98+ explorers due to vss issues. But you can use a manaul shift BW4406 from a 98-02 f150's and expedition drive shafts. Good write ups on explorerforum.com
