Skootz, your advice sounds correct, but your experience tells otherwise
Ya, like I said my advice with getting a diesel to start in winter is pretty much useless I bet my problem now is my batterys, I hope costco will give me new ones as mine arnt keeping enough charge in the cold.

Yeah, I don't have a super barn for my boat, buggy, superduty, etc. So it'll be out in the elements bitching if I dont keep it plugged in lol
I never heard back from you, I told you I was looking for a truck and I'd pay you to find me one.

My 1994 F350 with a 7.3 IDI has started at -3 without being plugged in. It was not happy. I would recommend plugging a diesel in this time of year. It reduces the load on the starter and batteries. A warmer engine also stresses the bearings less on the initial start up.

My first set of GP's lasted 90K; I'm on the second set and have (oddly enough) 90K on these with no problems. Plugging it in does make my truck start easier on cold days, but leaving something plugged in longer than 3 hours is wasting money.

I've never used fuel additives, seem to have good luck just trusting what's in the fuel. I run Delo 400, and the oil needs to be changed no later than every 5K miles. The shear forces the oil goes through in the injectors is pretty hard on it.

Also, I got a deal on bulk fuel filters and change mine with every oil change.

My Motocraft batteries are dead.

Not really blaming them though since I should have started it last week when it was 40 out. Skoots yearly "my truck won't start" thread just brought it to my attention . . . hardly ever drive the old girl these days since I don't have anything to pull.

Also - concerning batteries:

Check your terminals - dirty battery terminals will kill your batteries and make starting a bitch. I just ran into this problem earlier this month when it started to get cold. You lose voltage, voltage = RPM, and if you can't turn your PSD fast enough, it won't even try to start.

I got some super long extension cords we can run out to the super barn to plug in the super duty, then it will start super fast.

I had dead truck this morning, left it plugged in all night, but the previous owner told me it needed batteries, and he was right.

I bought the biggest, bestest batteries walmart had - I think it was under $130 (four years ago )

Yep same here, brand new batteries as of last year from costco are dead. Gonna change them, the fuel filter, and run thinner Rotella.

I've never had problems with the station on Clyde & 23. I get probably 90% of my fuel there since they have the big nozzles, and the other smaller stations don't.
