Default 1998 S10 Blazer need help

Got a blazer (4.3l v6 and auto trans) for a salt ride but it needs some work.... 4wd engages but front axle doesnt bad acuator? but the big problem is it gets TERRIBLE gas mileage no leaks, engine seems to run fine with the exception that it stumbles when gas is applied from idle... anyone have any ideas or past experience let me know

Actuator is probably bad.

When you say terrible what do you mean ? Single digits ?

I get about 13-14 in the city with my zr2 on 33's.

I work in a auto parts I hear this mileage issue all the time. Pull your cap and take a look at it. The crossfire cap they ran in those are notorious for having issues cause by moisture. You"re going to want to be especially careful because that distributor plate is known for the cap screws striping out i would start there. Pull your plugs and you might consider going up to like an iridium plug depending on how yours look if they are good or look a little lean I would think twice about going hotter on your plugs. The factory if my memory is correct is like an rapidfire 12 double platinum, I know for sure that's whats in the 350 vortecs and pretty sure they ran the same setup in the 4.3. That cap can also cause your low speed stumble but still run decent once its out of that low speed range, it just depends on if and how bad it is. There are a few other things it could be too, but that is where I would start.

Alright, I had the EXACT same problem. Replaced the actuator, fixed the vacuum leak, but still didn't engage.

There is a cable that runs from the actuator to the front diff. Take out the 3 bolts. Pry it just enough to see inside, have someone hold it open while you stick a very thin screw driver in and pop that little rusted spring loose, allowing it to unplug from the front diff. I went to the junkyard and got the cable with the actuator. Come to find out, the spring on the cable INSIDE the diff rusted through, so the actuator engaged, but didn't lock the front axle for the 4wd.

I guarantee you, if it's not the actuator, it's the cable inside the front diff. The new part pops right in after you install the new spring. :D Hope that helps.

Is the Blazer lifted? Large tires? Low geared? Those 3 things will destroy your milage! If yours is all stock, I'd recomend a complete tune-up. Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel and air filters, and even O2 sensors. Is the CEL on?

BTW, my '94 Blazer will get 18 in avg mixed driving, and 24 on the hwy @ 65mph.

I would check the vacuum actuator on the fire wall and the diaphragm under the battery. If those are both working then replace the cable.
