Run an oasis report before you buy a 6.0L to see what warranty work has been done on the truck under warranty. Could give you some idea of whats been replaced and if it has been a problem child. I know many dont like the 6.0L, and I understand why some dont. I have owned both an 05 and 06 6.0L. I have also owned an 02 and 05 Duramax, and an 08 6.4L powerstroke. Of all that I have owned overall I would take my 6.0L any day of the week. Its a very simple engine to work on. All parts are very cheap, and available. You can get a tuner for $400 that will put down 400RWHP and be able to handle all day long (SCT). I also loved my 6.4L and it made big powe with my Spartan 275 tune.....but thats a $1400 tuner and the fuel mileage was worse then my 6.0L. I look forward to owning my next 6.0L powerstroke. If you want a 6.0L get an 05(late built) or newer, remove the EGR cooler, and keep an eye on the oil cooler. Then drive it like you stole it.

Not to mention when you put a small tune on it and it lifts the head off the block because of the headstuds. I would invest in a lot of coolant.

I have a 05 6.0 and i love it i did alot of reading up on them before i bought it did the egr delete and replaced the oil cooler and haven't had any problems. If i had the money i would buy another one to build up. And tuners are not the problem with them Its the egr cooler you can run all day long with a tuner and not have a problem. if your looking to get on ck out powerstroke.org and you will learn alot about them.

I think ford also had a problem blowing head gaskits on a few years of the 6.0.

I will say that resale will always be there with a 7.3, but not so much with a 6.0. There is a 20-30% reduction between the two at the dealer auctions I go to. Regardless of individual experience, the street reputation of the 6.0 is problematic, something to consider before laying out the cash.

You missed it, I was being sarcastic. It is true though that for years, retarded sales guys were telling people that ford owned cummins.

The 6.0 is a decent to good engine, sure it has its problems, with the main problem being the short production run of the engine. International/Ford could never seem to work the bugs completely out of the engine as it was rushed into production to meet emissions and the 6.4 put in its place 4yrs later to meet the more demanding emissions. This truck is capable of producing good power and being reliable with an EGR delete. Breathe into a paper bag with a couple holes in it for a while see how well you perform. Reintroducing exhaust gases in the intake is a terrible idea especially in a diesel. Any small typically unnoticable problem (slightly leaky injector) now becomes a big one because of carbon/soot deposits. The 6.0 can be drastically more reliable by doing the egr delete and cab removal is not at all necessary. The procedure is quite lenghty and seems intimidating on paper, but it can easily be done in about 8 hrs with simple air tools. If your stuck between a 7.3 and a 6.0 and you arent looking to make crazy HP/TQ #'s and the newer look is what your looking for get the 6.0. You can put a tuner on it without fear of popping head gaskets just dont tune the shit out of it (i.e. six gun turned past 3 or 4 all the time on stock engine). If you want crazy #'s buy a 7.3, longer production run = much much much more options as far as upgrades.
