If you want an idea to go on, you could make new mounts for the cables tha mount them next to the case as opposed to under it. Then make new extensions for the rails that clear the yoke and d shaft and allow actuation from the new cable location. Make a new cross member that bolts in there but doesn't have bushings that far out and put a plate off the front side to mount a factory style bushing right where your bolts for the cross member and trans/t case mate now.

Minimal tear up but the hardest part would be redoing the shifter cable mounts while not giving up any feel on the actuation.

$0.02

Red is the only area where the shifters could actually come past the case. I looked at coming from the front too but didn't want to deal with driveshaft/exhaust and looping the cables up around the trans. It'll probably stay like it is for now, I'll get to it later. Focus is moving it under it's own power right now.

They'll have to get through a 1/2" plate of steel to get there

It's not that far off, just other priorities right this moment.
I'm 2 coolant line hoses, a radiator cap, 2 u-joints, and brake lines away from taking it for a ride through a field. I've been working on it, the assembly really isn't that exciting so I haven't been posting anything. Stay safe!

Doughnuts within 2 minutes, had to start it in 3rd with no clutch or brakes

Still plenty to do but I'm happy to have it moving on it's own in 2010.

Battery hold down, rewire fuse box and mount it, wire radiator fan, fix clutch issue, install brakes and run brake lines, replace glass in windshield, make add on cage and install, tie cage into frame, make front fenders and install, make skid plates and install, run exhaust, install passenger side seatbelt, redo front steering setup and install hydro assist(box is plugged to go for a ride) install another headlight, mount coilover reservoirs, redo gas fill area, install gas tank cover in rear of jeep, paint and install rocker guards, buy and install limit straps, finish my beadlock rock rings and now add a rear swaybar. I think that's about it, I'm sure I forgot something. Just another to do list, it'll all come in time.

Couple pictures after I set it down on all 4 with springs. Ended up with the back 1" higher than the front without fuel.

Swapped over to the 6 cylinder master/slave assy and I can shift now so I went for another ride...................... I like it!

My helper springs are blocked out so I have to buy different spacers for those. I'm not sure I have springs right either, going to get about 3" of travel on the tender spring before I have to transition into my main. That'll leave 3" of travel on the main to bottom out. I was hoping to transition with 2" left since my mains are 350lbs. I'll have to look into that more to figure out how to make that all work. Got to about 4k rpm in 3rd gear in 4 hi the rough way across the field..........alot smoother than what I thought it was going to be. All well, many many things to finish up now.

Turned down my helper sliders to 1/2" thickness which took care of the problem with the helper springs blocking out.

Sits alot closer to where I thought it would now. I'm just going to run what I have for now and adjust the slider stop once I get the limit straps installed.
I ordered limit straps, rear pinion guard and steering heims from Ruffstuff last week. Back does more work than the front, I took a picture when measuring for limit straps thursday.

I also installed my hood pins, reassembled and installed my coilovers and got to play with the bender for the first time. A little narrower than I wanted but it's not terrible. Full bump in the front(coilovers were out at the time).

Still trying to figure out what I'm going to do for fenders. I need to go past where highlines normally cut, not sure on how that's all going to work yet.
