Default 1991 Ford ranger 4x4 2 wheel drive conversion

I have a short box 4x4 ranger project i've had for a few years, The engine and trans are gone. I had other plans like a axle swap ect. But things changed. 4x4's are cool, but go fast stuff is too. I wanted to do a 5.0 V8 swap, lower it blah blah. I have the V8 motor n trans ready to go with a drive shaft and a 9'' rear. Has anybody ever converted one of these 4x4 rangers to 2 wheel drive? I heard all you had to do was swap the knuckles/spindles off a 2 wheel drive and remove all the 4x4 stuff. But it sounds too good to be true. I wanted some info from sombody who has done it. or is this a waste of time? Thanks

no reason you can't just leave the front 4x4 stuff as it is. you could pull the axle shafts out and it will just run on the 4x4 spindles. I'm assuming it is a ttb front so swaping knuckles and spindles doesn't seem like it would work because you still have the center section. I would just leave the front alone.

2wd rangers cannot run TTB's. The engine crossmember is different and the brackets will not attach correctly. Only real way to make a TIB into a 4wd is to SAS it.

Bolting on 2wd stuff to the 4wd beams is pointless as I don't believe that it would work.

But the same would go opposite as the 2wd TIB stuff wouldn't bolt in place of the TTB stuff.........

Find a 2wd cherokee and rob the dummy axle from it That would give you 2wd.

do you often over complicate things? I meant trade trucks, not suspension systems

I was given the impression you were referring to swap front suspensions (since that was the topic and you didn't specify, and using the word "convert" is misleading).... my bad.

re-read that, and I agree..."convert" was a poor choice of words, wasnt it?

you can get a diferent frame easier and faster than trying to to swap out the knuckles
and spindles that wont fit anyway what would work better is an explorer v8 e-transfercase and make an awd sleeper it works good and yes you can still lower it but u need no less than 5 degree ajustable caster camber upper ball-joint sleves i have done this with my 91 stx its a bitch but the out come was very cool and fast careful and reinforce the i-beam bracket for the passenger side because of the spance of it it likes to break off the engine crossmember and makes one hell of a mess good luck rock that ranger
