It's simple.

Organized labor may make a show out of "deciding" who to endorse, but they will endorse whatever democrat is running, period - even if it's not in their best interest.

Labor just can't conceive of endorsing anything but a democrat - because their simplistic mantra over the years has been "republican = management" and "republican = rich guys". Even if they should just shut up and endorse nobody, they can't help but endorse a democrat - even ones that either passively or actively oppose what labor wants and needs.

As one of my favorite writers once observed (from 2004, paraphrased for brevity).

In the past decade, the AFL-CIO has lobbied Congress on three major issues of any importance to union members:
1. Oppose the North American Free Trade Agreement;
2. Oppose permanent normal trade relations with China;
3. Support drilling for oil in Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
...

The unions lost every vote. Demonstrating his savvy political skills, the head of the AFL-CIO, John Sweeney, repeatedly throws the federation's support to political candidates who opposed labor on all three issues.
...

There is only one candidate for president who didn't vote for NAFTA, didn't vote for trade with China and supported drilling in ANWR. That candidate is George Bush. He got into office by beating Al Gore the guy who was the head cheerleader for NAFTA. And unlike Dick Gephardt, Bush spends more time on the phone with Jimmy Hoffa than with Barbra Streisand. As president, Bush enraged free traders and our precious European "allies" by imposing tariffs on steel imports.

Strictly following his strategy of selling union votes for nothing, the AFL-CIO has endorsed Sen. John Kerry who voted for NAFTA, voted for trade with China and voted against drilling for oil in Alaska. Skilled laborers will have to wait another day for "fair trade" and high-paying jobs in Alaska, but at least Sweeney's candidate supports the issues that really matter to the average blue-collar worker: gay marriage, global-warming treaties and Japanese hybrid cars.

LOL nice post duffman that is great. The afl cio ..... taking foolishness to new levels!

I think the union is endorseing granholm because they are both from the same school of big talk no walk, smoke and mirrors and promoting themselves and not consituants. The afl cio folks for example i can see some douche who reads his union pamplet HEADLINES and thats it .... raising his hand at bush on tv and swearing all the while thinking his union leaders are working for him and not kick backs and strengthing political future, and all the while have the utmost respect for that hack al gore. If that is not common WHY does the union leadership not work for the union members agenda! This ignorance has got to be soooo rampant.

I think the blind endoresements are just a political kickback of sorts. Its not a real endorsement for any mildly savy or should i say even mildly educated or barely informed union teacher. Its nothing more than arranging for nice appointments, getting jobs for friends, vacations, no bid contracts for family members business and shit like that from the democractic party to connected union leaders. There is no substance behind the endorsement. Any endorsement from a union like the teachers is a gurantanteed large vote at the polls, worth tens of millions of dollars. I think thats why they ALWAYS have to endorse someone. It pays them personally to endorse .... its one of the biggest paydays for union leaders so why would they want to pass that up ..... they dont care if its contradictory to the real agenda of their organization.

As a member of the MEA and the NRA I get mail quite often suggesting I vote for an endorsed candidate. Both organizations send letters with statistics, voting history, etc. Frankly I don't trust either organizaion enough to vote for a candidate soley because that candidate is endorsed. Ultimately look at what you need and want. Look at what the candidate does and vote accordingly. Voting based soley on the endorsment of any acronym is foolish.

W never had a chance to vote or not vote for NAFTA because he was never in congress. However, he does support NAFTA and is a "Cheerleader"

Don't take it out on CMU - it's not his fault.

In the highly likely event she's reelected, it'll be the result of sheeple just voting the straight democrat ticket - because their union, clergy, or whatever told them to.

There's the added reality that people vote democrat when the economy is looking weak - which most people would agree it does. We had a big-time economist in at work, and he laid out a really dismal picture for Michigan's economy - like "1929 will look like not such a big deal" bad - unprecendented bad - Mississippi will look prosperous bad".

And, as I've said all along, DeVos is going to have a hard time escaping the poor image (i.e. "pyramid scam") most people hold of Amway (or whatever it's called today).
