I am really burned out for working on cars right now. For some reason I just can't spend more than a few hours at a time at my shop. I've been putting all my effort into remodeling the second story of my house (a 8 year project to this point).

I'm starting to feel the spark of interest in the project again so I will be posting some updates soon. My next task is to fab up motor and tranny mounts so I can set everything in and find out the ride it of the chassis.

Here is my secret to stuffing a SBC in the middle of a (formerly) 2 banger Honda. The shortyglide.

This is just a mock up for now. I still have to put the shorty planetary in and convert the valve body to work without the governor.

Mock up of engine and trans in frame. Engine is just dangling above frame at this point. I started on motor mounts last night but I fucked up the angles so I have to start over. I will be sitting almost on top of the rear axle in case you were wondering.

One of the craziest build threads I have seen. That is going to be one wild ride when you get it completed!

Ok, I dusted the Honda off and started to tinker with it again. I now have the motor and transmission all bolted into the frame. I had a tough time figuring out how to make a transmission mount because when you make a shortyglide, you loose the trans mount. What I eventually came up with was a ring I made on the lathe that would bolt up to the back of the trans on top of the shortyglide plate. I then welded a tab on the bottom of the ring for a trans mount. From this point it was easy, just a few mounting tabs on the frame, some holes drilled (and slotted) and there it is: a functional transmission mount with factory style rubber isolator.

He look, my fancy drill press can make slots too.

Psycho trans mount. The slot in the tab is so I can access a bolt. The slot is a little on the sloppy side because I cut it with the plasma cutter freehand. I'll clean the slot up at a later date. Note: I'm aware that the mounting tab is not triangulated. I wil do that after I have a driveshat made up. I need to be sure I have enough clearance for the yoke and universal. Also, the shaft sticking out of the transmission is not going to be used. I just cut down the original output shaft for mock-up purposes. Tranny will be coming out eventually for a rebuild and shorty planetary set.

Rolling chassis with motor and trans bolted. I'm hoping to get the body mounted in the next month or so.

I will be sitting just ahead of the rear axle. This will be a single seat car.

With the addition of one more heim joint, the steering will be done. I've plated all the open tube ends on the main frame so now there is only one thing left to do.......

Stuff the frame into the body

I will be hacking the floor out of the Honda in a few days. I have to take some time off to stuff a trans in a Jetta.

Yes it does. The car is too narrow to fit the V8 under the hood and still have a front suspension. This is a very small car.

I'm 5' 11". It will be a very tight fit but I don't care. Sometimes you have to suffer a little bit to enjoy the glory. Seriously, I know the car will be miserable to drive for more than a few miles. Why I build shit like this, I don't know, but I like it.
