Ouch.

Looked at the rocks yesterday, but forgot my phone in the truck so no pics, sorry. This is the same or similar material as what we had hauled into Albright Shores a few years back, mostly in the 60" range, 6-8 tons each.

The only pics I could dig up in the few minutes before I go to work were these relics....some hilrod and his porta-potty...

Let's set our sights on $5500!!

Just from the posts here I'm thinking we should be in the $4300 range but I would much rather see an update from Paul with the actual to date total.

Seem likely that we could raise enough $$ for (3) loads, but we might want to make sure the contractor will have enough time to place that much material. Keep in mind every rock that gets loaded onto a truck here in Alpena for it's ride down to St Helen's will need to be dumped in the parking lot in St Helen's, then re-loaded into an off-road haul truck, hauled to the construction site, and dumped again before it can even be moved into place. That is ALOT of time and fuel just to get the material to the location, let alone arrange it into a callengeing and structurally stable (safe) course.

Let's set our sights on $5500!!
48 ton train, 7 ton rocks, 7 rocks per truck, About $250/rock without installation charges. $5000 gets us 20 rocks which all laid out in a row would get us 2 rocks wide @ 10-15' and 10 rocks long at 50-60'. Hopefully these get mixed into a course with smaller rocks and they get spaced out so they'll be good for a total of 20' wide and about 150' length spread out over however many courses..... Not bad.

Any idea how many rocks (tons) are being purchased under the proposed work plan?

Lots of round-off's at work here, but you're on the right track. I would guess that we'll see 20-25 large rocks out of (3) loads, with a few smaller ones thrown in to max the truck out.

As I understand it, this is all IN ADDITION TO the rocks purchased under the DNR work plan...I'm not sure how much that will add up to, but I am concerned about the fact that the DNR's rocks are not coming from the same place ours are, which means they will most likely be natural rock, not quarried stone...so it may be round "field stone" type material.

There simply aren't a whole lot of large-stone quarry's in the lower penninsula.

Either way, it's going on public land, free for all of us to use, it may not be like they have out west, but it will be something FAR more geared towards our user group than any other state owned trail.

I'm pretty sure these rocks are still there but covered in about 5ft weeds. I have a place right across the street.
