Default **SOLD**24' Hackercraft Wood Boat - Holland - 335hp 454

Front

Side2

This boat has just incredible lines. It was special ordered by a gentleman in Lake Geneva Wisconsin as a twin cockpit runabout. I called Hackercraft and spoke with the owner and it is the only 24' twin cockpit they've made. The front cockpit is ahead of the motor with a three piece windshield. The rear cockpit is behind the motor, again with a three piece windshield. The owner of Hackercraft stated if the boat was commissioned today it would start at $110K. Reasonable sale price is between $55-65 fully restored.

The story I got was his grandfather had a Hackercraft made in the '20's to very similar lines. He commissioned this boat in 1989 to be a replica of the original only with modern powerplant. Boat was delivered in 1990 to the original owner.

The original owner passed away in '98 and the boat was sold and ended up in Sandusky OH with 58 hrs on it. The new owner repowered the boat with a 335hp 454. He showed the boat in several local events in '99 and 2000. He lost interest and stored it at a marina until I purchased it earlier this year with 108 hrs. I have not run the boat other than to test the motor.

Engine

I had 3 local professionals, the marina that stored the boat and me personally do a thorough inspection (not survey) to uncover any issues. I personally spent 4 hours poking every surface to ensure I knew the condition before I purchased it.

There are two known problems. The stem has dry rot and needs to be replaced. I received two quotes of $1500 and $1800 as well as a very quote of $1200 from local wood boat restoratoin experts. One is a subcontractor to Macatawa Boatworks in Saugutuck. The second problem is a crack in the keel at the rudder bearing. There is no rot in the keel but the crack could potentially lead to rot if not taken care of. I received two quotes for this work as well. One $1200 and one for $1500. The cutwater is not available with the boat.

Stem

I planned to strip the boat to bare wood and completely refinish it. I also planned to replace the chrome hardware with stainless steel. At the time this boat was built Hackercraft did not offer stainless and the chrome on this boat has dulled with time. There are no pits but it doesn't shine like this boat deserves.

The interior is green leather and is in good shape. If I remember correctly there is a small crease in the front drivers seat. The rear cockpit has two glove compartment doors. One was cracked and repaired. It should be redone.

The boat is on a Shorelander trailer. The trailer is roadworthy and tows well. The bunks are not adjusted for this boat and need to be replaced. I was planning a new trailer specifically designed for this boat but all my plans have been put on hold for at least a year.

I really want this boat to go to someone who will appreciate it and give it what it deserves. It's a remarkable boat that draws crowds even on the trailer.

The asking price is $25000 and I'm willing to help arrange transportation within 500 miles of Holland Michigan. I will consider trades but prefer 28-34 tudor sedans, 66-72 muscle cars, or 58-67 vette. I will consider all offers fully.

Looks like my uncle's old boat. He passed away in 1993 and had it at Harson's Island. Are you certain the original owner of this one died in 1998?

I'm not absolutely certain of anything.

What I have found out so far:

The title was transfered to the second owner in '98 from Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.

Was your uncle's boat a 24' or a 20'? According to Hackercraft this is the only 24' made that was a twin or split cockpit. The 20' are common as a twin or split cockpit

Don't know. I'll have to ask my Aunt. It's been a long time since I was on their boat. It was VERY nice though, as is the one you are posting. It certainly was no "plastic floatation device" as my Aunt likes to call these new fiberglass P.O.S. Bump.
