Default project RUSTY PUMPKIN II-NEW PICS (5-29)

this past weekend i got a 95 yj, 2.5, manual trans, with 48k on it from my girlfriends unkle for doing some work on his dakota for him. this jeep was purchased new by him in 95 and he drove it most in the summer but a little in the winters but it sat alllllottt. i knew off hand it needed a new alt and alt bracket, the old alt siezed and busted the bracket. bought a new alt and installed along with welding up the bracket since i had such a hard time finding out. but when i was loading it on the trailor i noticed a bad spot in the frame of corse by the pass rear shackle, in the pic is before i poked around the area. almost the whole rear 1ft or so of the frame was just gone.so i bought a frame that was modified and really no good use for a stock aplication and cut the section off that i needed and welded it in and now its golden. i picked up some really nice alcoa 16x8 pollished aluminum 8 hole wheels and stuck some used 32x11.50x16 pitbull growlers on em and waitin to get a lift to install em. so far so good

new pics on page 3 as of 5-29

Check by the steering box, upper rear shock mounts and the crossmember, these are also spots that are prone to rotting out. By the looks of it you are going to have more issues with that frame. If you get lucky and that is the only spot you need to fix you can fix it with some box tube and plate, I'm sure some of the YJ guys on here have some pics of their own repairs and would be happy to post some up for you. What are your plans for the YJ?

Look at my yj build thread. I changed the front and back frame, there was nothing wrong with it just wanted it different but you can get an idea of how to do it.

Not bad for free and about time you get something again. That's all I have to contribute to your thread though.

get ahold of thomas, he replaced the whole rear section of the frame on the toyota he had for awhile last year. from the back of the cab back i think it was. i think most of it entails box tube and fish plating the new section in

If you run a SOA lift, you'll probably want 35's. 31's and 32's will just be a little on the small side

And a new rear axle to run 35s. The Dana 35 in the back of the YJ is crap and you'll be lucky to be able to have it survive w/ 33s. 35s it can break shafts in a mall parking lot...

:-)

I am not a welder so I have no help on your frame issues- although I just bought a pair of welders so I am learning. I am sick of cutting tubes, clamping and test fitting and then packing it all up to bring to work or a friends to have stuff welded!

haha thanks im actualy thinking about doing a 2.5 suspension lift and runnning 31s or 32s. i think ill hold off on the soa untill i have money for new drive shafts, rear axel, extended brake lines, shocks, ect. i just started a new job so moneys tight at the moment. im hoping i can find some used 2.5" leaf springs or somewhere i can get them cheap.
