I don't know what the number means, but do you need the long side or the short side?

The number is whats stamped on the axle housing and when you google it , you can find info on the axle that it was actually 1971 and I cann't remember the rest. I am posting this for my husband so I think by saying we want the inner and the outer that means we want both the long side and the short side.

I know what the number IS - its the Bill Of Materials for the axle assembly itself (the whole thing). It doesn't tell us which set of shafts you need.

You already posted the dimensions, so this is just a quick FYI explanation. Its easier to say which side of the axle you need the pair of shafts from if you know the axle's application (model & year). There are 4 shafts in a front axle and the differential is always off to one side. The outers (stub shafts) are identical, but the two inners are not the same length. There is a long side and a short side.

By the numbers you just posted, it has to be the short side.

You said, you didn't know what the number means. I gave the number if someone wanted to look it up they could see the specs or dimensions maybe to match things up. We'll take anything we can get for that axle cause if we don't need it right now, we will need it sometime. At the moment we do need the short side (the driver's side front) We will take the long side too.

Yeah, I did say that. I also explained to why the BOM doesn't tell us what you needed. Even though you posted the lengths, you didn't know what it was you were asking for until I explained the long side/short side concept.

Based on this description, you could have ended up with two inner shafts. See what I am saying?

Does your husband's axle have drums? Ask him if he would be interested in a complete later 70's axle assembly (upgrade to discs) if he has trouble finding just the shafts that he needs.

We already have too much money in the hydraulics and locker and everything else in the front end. (so don't want to take all that out for discs)
We can find a different axle assembly at salvage yards around here .
We may end up just having to spend more money to have something built.
