dads friend had one. sold it right away. he said they sucked. they are speed limited, cant put them up on 2 wheels, the traction control and stability control suck, (as in you cant do anything fun)

he is a pretty good motorcyclist and has had dozens of bikes but, for everyday people i guess you could consider them "cool," Like a pair of training wheels on your 2 wheeler.

How can you say that? You are wrong. The OP said they are "worth the hype" so you must not know anything.

I can tell you have never been on one. You sure you dads friend wasn't on a Can Am DS 90 instead of a renegade 800? Most if not all quads are speed limited now...my Raptor 700 cuts out at 72mph, it retards timing in 5th gear to accomplish this. That is just one of those safety features that all manufacturers are forced to put on their machines now days because of sue happy idiots who wreck them.

My friends little brother brought a Renegade 800 up to silver lake with us 2 years back...I'm not sure what type of traction control or stability control you are talking about, but we had no issues tearing around on that thing. And it would pull the front wheels up without a problem on the road.

Compared to a street bike, most quads will feel slow...but the renegade is the most powerful quad on the market. It is a heavy beast, but they flat out rip, and will outrun most sport quads.

Now I'm really looking forward to seeing how the new Can Am Commander 1000 stacks up against my RZR-S on the sand. I know in a flat out race, it will probably smoke me...but I'm not sure how that heavy pig will handle the dunes.

$14,699 on their website for the 1000x model, which is MUCH cheaper than I expected. The RZR-4's are cool for a family, but not for me...I love my S though. They are all over Silver Lake, one of the places that used to rent jeeps up there now rents RZR's and RZR-4's.

I wonder why they would do this to themselves...I can't imagine that they can't produce them fast enough. I have heard of a few dealers out west charging a couple thousand dollar NON refundable deposit on these things, and making the customer agree to buy 2 or 3 thousand dollars worth of Can Am accessories on top of it, just so they can be the first guy on the block with the new toy...crazy.

I will happily stick with my RZR-S. Now the rumors are flying like mad about Popo's answer to the Commander, rumor says 4 new/redesigned RZR's and possibly a 1100 cc motor.
