i have a 700r4 worked great .....did a flexplate swap put the tranny back in now it acts like it goes into neutral after second gear. first....fine second....fine no anything else. detent cable moves freely fluids full i dont get it it worked fine then out and back in and nothin!!

try adjusting the detent cable. Other than that I would say the converter/trans is possibly bad.

Probably bad 3-4 clutch pack.
