Typical shop labor is anywhere from $60 to $100 an hour. The tech usually gets a 1/3 of that.

I'd charge $75.

The dealership my brother works at its $102/hr for labor.

$75 - $100 is what I'd aim for.

Why did it take you 3 hours? It should not have taken more than 1 hour! Friend $50...not a friend $75

it doesnt really matter what a professional shop would charge, you are not a professional shop, you dont carry the insurance, pay labor + benefits, offer a full warrenty, or pay any of the other overhead a shop has, not to mention if you want to consider it that way, you cannot charge for how long it actually took, but only for how long the book says it should take

if its a friends vehicle, money causes problems...work out a trade, have him do some work around your yard, house, etc, or buy you dinner, beer and pizza, whatever, but dont make it a cash only deal...besides, shouldnt you have already worked out the cost before doing the job?

I think that job calls for about 1-1.2 hours. I get $50/hr for side work so I would say 50-60 bucks if I were to do it.

Note: I charge people book time. If it says 1 hour and it takes me 20 minutes, I charge an hour. If it says 1 hour and it takes me 2, I charge an hour. It's just the way the game is played.
