2010 census

So a census worker stopped by my place today but I was not home. I'm sure he will be back, so what exactly do I HAVE to answer to avoid a stupid fine? I'm under the impression that the only thing I have to tell them is how many people live at my residence, Is this True?

They asked for My Name, My Wife's Name, How many people lived in the house and what we did as a job. I think. Took like 10 min. It was the ladies first time filling it out.

What is the big deal about the census?

The government knows what you make (income taxes).

They know where you live (driver's license/state ID).

The census determines where tax money is distributed based on population in regions and what not. Wouldn't you want more of your tax money in your area?

This and political representation are the most important reasons in my opinion.
Besides, if you refuse to give any information the census workers will just go to your neighbor's to find out what they know about you.

I did not recieve the form either. So I'm not really sure what's on it. I don't mind answering how many people live with me and my name and such, but much more than that and they can GTFO. I'm not into random people coming to my door and asking questions.

Bullshit.

Show me one piece of legislation that calls for distribution of tax dollars based on population. It's hashed out by politicians.

I also hate the BS brainwashing commercials that imply that filling out a census form will improve local schools. Again, wrong. Schools use their own student counts to determine STATE funding. Federal money doesn't support local schools directly.

It's all about Congressional districts and representation - that's why it's in the Constitution.

Then what is it used for?

You don't think census data would paint a better picture to the politicians of where to help?

I realize most politicians suck ass, but doesn't mean every single one wants to bend us over.

Putting a bunch of people to work counting us so you can claim the government created a bunch of jobs, thus keeping the unemployment rate below 10%

It is supposed to be used to determine how many representatives each state gets in congress, and also how the districts are drawn up. Look up jerry mandering.
