Thumbs up ? Could be a dumb question Re: Trailer Tires

I have a open center trailer for my Jeep in decent shape all new bearings and brakes set up right. I put 4 new Good Year RTS tires on it from Jeeps
(spares) They are all new take offs. The tires seem to make it tow harder than when it had trailer tires on it? am I full of beans or would the tires cause that to happen? Any info would be appreciated, Thanks.

could be. trailer tires generally have a good directional pattern and stiffer sidewalls to decrease rolling resistance.

all 4 are GY Wrangler RT/S's 205-15's off of Jeeps. Just feels like it has less rolling resistance, want to make sure, was told to check tires.

Consider this, these tires were originally intended to hold up a Jeep and are weight rated as such. Now put another 1000lbs of trailer on top of them and you more than likely have to much sidewall flex due to an overload situation. Which in turn will cause the tires to have MORE, not less rolling resistance. These tires will also have a shorter life and will be more likely to have an overheating issue causing a potential blow out at highway speeds.

I would seriously consider selling these as Jeep replacement tires and get a set of tires intended for towing the weight you will be placing on them.

Re-read what Bones posted. Being more resistant to rolling (harder to tow) = more rolling resistance, not less.

Thats what I was figuring but wanted to see what other people thought who do the same type of towing. To the parts for sale forum they go..

well being I have seen lots of accidents and such. I would buy new tires for your trailer. I pull a trailer every day in the summer. safty for the people around you and your own safty could be at risk at high & low speeds. I hate the fact that I spent 500 on all the trailer tires this year. just my 2 cents

I've towed my old car hauler 10s of thousands of miles using plain old passenger car tires. Stupid trailer has even been the the east coast and Washington D.C. I've never noticed any real difference in the rolling resistance between tire types.
