Default tranny problem

Ok to start off with i have a 96 k1500 with the 5.7l 4l60e tranny and a np241 transfer case, truck runs great but did shift a little hard so i knew this was happening. Today it drove fine for a good 50miles then after a stop light as its shifting i get up to 4th gear and all it does is rev up its a auto so i put it down into 3rd gear and it drives fine. I put it back into drive and again it just revs so i ride with it in 3rd for a second and pull into a gas station, check the trans fluid and it looks good its still red and doesn't smell burnt at all. I get back on the road and it shifts fine now in drive into 4th just fine, then another stop light and again once it hits 4th it just revs. So by now i'm on the way home i got 40 miles to go so i pull over to the side of the road and shift thru all the gears a couple times take off and then it drove fine the rest of the way home.

So i think its the tranny going out, i have a 95 chevy diesel sitting in my yard with a 4l80e trans in it, i'm wondering if i put the bigger tranny into my 1500 am i gunna need to do something to the computer to get it to work and should it be fine?
I'd like to just be able to swap the 4l80e in place of the 4l60e and it just work. I know its not that simple. If i can't just slap the 80 in should i try and rebuild the 60 myself or take it some where, and keep in mind i'm broke so the less money i spend the better.
I've never rebuilt a tranny but i feel confident that i could figure it out with help from the internet and i'm sure i could find someone that has done it to come over and help but i dont wanna try and rebuild it and have it not work.
I find 4l60e trans in ebay for around 5 to 700 rebuilt with a year warranty.

Seeing as i'm broke if i can just put the 4l80e in there i'd be happy.
hope someone can help me out here thanks
wally

No idea about the 4L80E but I got a 4L60E that is out of a running and going Jimmy currently mated to a 231C case with manual shift lever.

after reading it looks like i can get a conversion harness to hook up the computer and it will bolt up but the 80e is longer so i'd have to moved to crossmember and possibly use the tcase outta the other truck so the gears will match up the the tranny so it can be done with a lot of work looks like a rebuild is in order
