NP205 shift patern with 3 positions

I have A GM NP205 transfer case. It is set up with a single shifter on it. The shifter and boot have no markings to indicate how it is engaged. I have looked for shift pattern on line and found most state that it is 4LO-N-2HI-4HI. I'm only feeling 3 separate positions or detentes though. Forward is 4 wheel drive, Center is Neutral and all the way back is 2 wheel only. I do have manually lockng hubs. I guess I am not sure if the linkage is set up wrong or if my transfer case whacked.

Thanks for any help...

Sometimes it will go right through neutral and right into 4H. That's what you might be feeling.
