Default Drum to disk on an 8.8

If I have 8.8 rear axle from an explorer and it has drum brakes, can the backing plates be removed and have calaper brackets put on in their place. I would assume that they would just bolt right on. Any help would be great.

Yes you can remove the factory drum brake stuff and bolt on 95+ Disc brake stuff. The axle housings themselves are the same unless you get a v8 explorer/moutaineer 8.8 then it has two axtra brackets welded to the tubes.

I did this very thing on my old 91 explorer sport.

Thanks guys, I ended up with a 98 exploder axle with disk brakes, 31 spline shafts and a LSD. Striped it down today, and replaced some seals. Just waiting for my M.O.R.E offroad brackets to show up next week.
