Default 390

Ok I have a 1978 ford 4x4 with a 390. I am looking to take my manual transmission out and replace it with an automatic, I been told that I need a C6 transmission, but I know they come with different bolt patterns and I am not sure which one to get. Please Help!

They are getting hard to find. Look in the mid 70's f150-250 trucks.

whoever told you that was wrong. The 390 block has a rounded bellhousing, almost a circle, I am pretty sure the 351M shares its bell housing with a bigblock,429/460. I would have to go out to the garage and look to be positive.

are u sure its a 390? or a 78? 390 isnt stock for 78...infact 390s are kinda rare for trucks..usualy they are 360s but u cant tell from the outside..the 352/360/390/428 share bellhousings..they are "fe" series...351m/400/429/460 share bellhousings and are totaly diffrent

i havent actually seen the trans setup on an FE, but the 351M, 400 do have the 385 series bell pattern. or it is really close
