Can TTB D44 stub shafts be used in a Solid D44?

I have done it on the 5 bolt wheel front ends (single piston caliper). One thing to watch is the location of the snapring groove on the end, some are for the old style Ford lockouts.

So what your saying is the older they are the more likely the snap groove is in the right place? I have a 1978 D44 Bronco axle that I'm trying to put together some spare shafts for.
