Artwork - Metal - More of my dads latest

A crane

this is a bird bath my dad is making for my fiance and I. It is his wedding gift to us from him. it looks great in person and the glass bowl is hand made and has a humming bird on it.

I need to start bringing my camera with me when i go to visit over there.

That's awesome! Does he do it just for a hobby or a living?

its a hobby but he could have done it for a living if he would have priced things accordingly lol.

we constantly tell him that his time is money but he simply loves doing it and loves the expressions on peoples faces when they see it.

We did finally get him to take his stuff to the local galleries, he nearly shit his pants when they said we take 50% of the sale only to find out the 50% he now gets is 100% more than he would have sold it for to someone off the street. (i.e. gallery charges 4K he gets 2K but he would have sold it for 1K)

hes getting up there in age and i only have a few pieces of his work....... he wont give me a price break the old bastard

He should rent a booth at the local art fairs, he would seriously rake in a boatload

we used to do that when i was younger but the time it takes to get enough pieces for the show and then having to deal with the "snobs" who ran/run it, became not worth it to him in the end.

we were all over the state for fairs all summer, it was fun, well we hated unloading, setting up and then packing up after being in the sun all day. We as kids got bored as hell out there. I did have my first kiss with a girl at one though, i was 12 and it was awsome.

you'd be suprised how many tire kickers there are out there at those fairs. One year your the king and then the next your the peasant. He loved the interaction but as he gets older he cant keep up with the galleries wants.
