Yamaha crankcase oil

I've been workin on a 73' Yamaha Enduro 175. I split the case today to take a look at the clutches and and crankcase oil. My question is what is suppose to be run in these things. Ive read 10W-30 and 10W-40. Just want to be sure before i fill it back up with that.

Also what do you think about using either silicone or Permatex 2 for putting it back together. I don't think I'm going to find a crank gasket very easily.

2 or 4 stroke. RTV works good as long as you let it dry completely before refilling. i've used it when redoing bike engines and never had an issue as long as i let it dry first. the one time i was impatient it leaked like a sieve.

Its a 2 stroke, oil injected. I'm asking about the crank oil though not what to burn. 2 plugs single cylinder

i was just wondering

i had a 78 360-it had 3 plugs

i always ran kawasaki full syn. 10-40

never had a problem, bike still runs to date

Had 3 plugs for the 1 cylinder? I assume (since I don't know much about this bike) that it is just for when ur on the trail and foul one out you just move the wire and keep on goin.

well i ask because 4 strokes use crankcase oil in the gearbox. 2 strokes have separate oil for the gearbox. i've had a few 2 stroke bikes, and i've always run bel ray gearbox oil. some people run straight 30W motor oil, and some run ATF. i run the oil designed for the gearbox to avoid causing problems with clutch friction material. my last bike had atf in it and the clutch would slip. i flushed it and run real gearbox oil then the clutch gripped great.

i just looked it up that belray 2 stroke oil is 80W.

I didn't see any other place to add oil ill have to look tomorrow when i'm back down there. I'm not sure if it has separate oil or not. The side I opened (the only real good access) had the clutch setup in there.

I run ATF Type F in my 250 2-stroke dirtbike. I'm not sure about those old dinosaurs though.

yea thats what i was told it was for but i ran 2 spark plugs and a decompression lever

theres no oil fill plug on the front right side(if your sitting on the bike) of the motor?

If ur on the bike there is a fill plug on the right by the kick-start, but this is the oil that i'm talking about which is also the oil that the clutch is using. The kickstart, maingear, speedo gear, and injection pump gears are all in this area also. On the left would be the side with the sprocket and gearset. There may be a different type of plug there also, ill have to look tomorrow.

Yea i thought about that too, all the Yamaha guys seem to love the pumps on em though. Its also variable oil injection, meaning when you turn the throttle the amount of oil changes. The pump seems to work fine now, so we'll see.
